3rd Trimester

"Are you excited?!"

Does anybody else think this is about the dumbest question you can ask a pregnant lady? Like what do you think I'm going to say? "Meh. Not really."

Re: "Are you excited?!"

  • My answer isn't always, "Yes!  I'm excited."  If you catch me on a day where my boys aren't cooperating I'm more terrified than anything else.  This baby can stay in there and bake for as long as it needs.  I'm in no rush because I know what I am in for during that first 6 week adjustment period and frankly "excited" isn't the word I would use to describe how I'm feeling about it.

  • lol...yes I agree, it's so funny, almost everyone says the same few things, I try not to let it bug me, but I know it drove my SIL crazy.  That and "how are you feeling?", like they REALLY want to know that I can't sleep at night and my gums and teeth are killing me, and all the other little things that go along with it, so you just end up saying, "yep, I'm excited, I feel pretty good, blah, blah, blah"

  • Yes, I'm so sick of the following:

    1.  "How are you feeling?"  - I've consistently had this question from everyone since the day they all found out I was pregnant.  Now I could see this question coming up some in the first tri (if I had told anyone in the first tri) with the morning sickness, or even towards the end of the third tri...but really do you want to hear that I'm awful if I am?  Doubt it.

    2.  "Are you ready?" - Well, doesn't matter if I'm ready bc it's not up to me.  Also, do you care if I'm ready?  Are you going to offer to help if I'm not?  Doubt it.

    3. "Are you excited?" - I've gotten close to saying no just to see what the person would say.  I think I might next time around just for fun...weirdos!

  • I hate that! It's worse than "Are you sure your due date is right?" One time I said "Nah, I don't really like kids" and she just said oh and changed the subject.

yup yup yup.  I'm mostly excited, but not always.

  • 1. Are you excited?

    2. How are you feeling?

    3.When are you due?

4.What do you think the gender of the baby is? I think......

5.So have you thought of any names?

  • haha - it is the stupidest question.  Dh asks me this all the time!!  lol!  'no, I'm not excited..'  come on!  I'm just tired of being pregnant and carrying around almost 45+ lbs of extra weight, tired of not being able to sleep well, not being able to bend down....I could go on.  How can you not be excited?

  • Yesterday I got, "When is the baby coming?"

I said, "Let me check", looked down at my belly, and asked, "When are you coming?"

Then I played dumb -- "Ohhhh, you mean when am I DUE?"

The lady had the grace to look sheepish.

  • I really hate being asked about names too.  I don't know why, it just bugs me - maybe because it's usually total strangers who ask and I think it's weird they want to know my unborn child's name...

"Are you excited?"  Usually gets a, "um...yes?"  from me. Cause really, what the hell else are you supposed to say?

  • lol yep I get it all the time. It's just like "How are you feeling?". Not that that is a dumb question, but the repetitiveness is the same.

  • I'm sick of ALL of those questions, but even more so I'm sick of all the stupid comments I get on a daily basis-ALWAYS from the men I work with (who in my opinion, should not be allowed to have an opinion on my pregnancy!)

-Are you sure you should still be wearing heels? That doesn't seem good for the baby.

-Should you really be stretching like that? It looks like your squishing the baby.

-Be careful! Don't lift that empty cardboard box that weighs half of an ounce!!!! BAHHHHH!

I guess I'm one of those who doesn't like people telling me what I should and shouldn't be doing, so I've been annoyed for half of my pregnancy.

  • Haha I personally dont mind it, because then it opens up the doors for me to talk about stuff like getting the nursery ready, or getting ready for the baby shower, or asking them if they're women how their labor experience was. I love being able to talk with people about their experiences as well as mine bc this is the first time I've ever been pregnant! I could talk about it all day bc of how new and exciting it all is. So it doesnt really bother me no.

  • heck yeah I am tired of hearing those same stupid questions and I am a first time mom. My answers now is " I'm ready/excited to leave this place". I just feel it's their lame way of making small chat with a pregnant lady, you dont have to always ask the pregnancy lady how things are!
  • i tell them i hope it's a puppy.  people should know by now to expect smartass responses from me, i don't know why they ask dumb questions.
