When you're laying on your side

do you ever feel your lo moving around on the side you're laying on? If so, do you change positions?  At night I sleep on my left side but occasionally switch to the right.  Lately, as soon as I turn to the right, I can feel him squirming right under me. I know it's not true but I feel like I'm squishing him so then I end up again on the left. It's hurting my hips staying on the same side all night, though.

Re: When you're laying on your side

  • I get this all the time on my left side. Sometimes I have to switch sides as LO feels like they are squirming around my hip bone and it feels really weird and I can never fall asleep.

  • If I were you, I would continue to sleep on both sides regardless of where you feel the baby. If you're properly on your side, you can't squish the baby and he/she will just adjust their position to where they're comfortable too. Our backs & tummies are out for sleeping positions, don't deny yourself a side as well!

  • For both my pregnancies, I have ended up sleeping on my right side most of the time, occasionally switching to my left or my back.  Also in both cases, the baby is also on my right side.

I do roll over to if I get uncomfortable, but I don't worry too much about squishing him or blood flow.

  • Yes, I feel Kyle when I'm sleeping on my left. Sometimes, I wake up and have been sleeping on my back.. I'm not worried about it since Kyle still kicks and heartbeat is good,, so I'm thinking sleepingon the back is a myth.
  • Yes. I end up switching sides/positions just to get comfortable. Sometimes my hips even hurt when I wake up depending on how long I was laying on that one side. Very weird.

  • for me if im laying on my left side i feel him on my other side and that side of my belly is like sticking up.. well not actually sticking up, im not sure how to explain it but then if i switch sides he moves over to the other side.

most of the time anyway lol :) i toss and turn switching sides all night bc of my dang hips.

  • LO is pretty much parked on my right side permanently.   I think it's because I've been sleeping on my right side since 12 weeks when my back got screwy.  I've tried to get gravity to do it's thing and get him to move to the left side by laying on my left, but he doesn't move.  (Also, doc says he's breach, so his legs are dangling to the left anyway)

  • I've never noticed him being on the same side that I'm laying on...he usually is on the exact opposite side.  That must be weird!  But like you said, you're not squishing him, so try and get comfy :-)

  • Yes- he kicks me like crazy on the side I'm lying on. He also kicks the other side too. I just have to wait it out before I fall asleep.
  • Regardless of what side I'm on, LO will start to squirm. I switch sides a few times during the night, and she always knows exactly where to kick.

  • I asked my doctor and she said the left side was the best, but anyway you can sleep is okay as long as you can breathe. I sleep on my back because sometimes it's the only way I can fall asleep. If I sleep on my side I wake-up numb or my hips hurt. Right now I'm just trying to survive.
