Alementum Formula...

LO had to be switched to this last night b/c of her eczema....has anyone else used this? I know my niece used it years ago, but it's way more money than LO's other formula. If you use it, do you ever get coupons or know of a store that costs less? We spent $26.99 on a can last night. LO eat about 7oz each feed, so we wanted to see if there is a way to save a few dollars from what we are used to with $14 a can.

Also, did you see a difference if you switched LO to this formula due to eczema or any other reason?

Thanks for any tips you have.

Re: Alementum Formula...

  • DS has been on Alimentum since he was 10 weeks for milk/soy protein sensitivity.  I have been very thrifty when using this formula since it is so expensive:

    1.  Sign up yourself, your mom, your MIL, and any friends who are willing at Similac.com on strong moms.  They send out checks and coupons periodically--by signing up everyone you know, you save a LOT of money

    2.  I buy the ready to feed for two reasons--one is that LO likes it better and two is that when I use the $5 coupon I get it for $1.60 at my grocery store.  At one point I had 15 checks and spent 22.50 on 15 bottles=15 days!

    3.  Sign up on Enfamil and Good Start so you can use the swap spot on the bump to switch with other people.  I can't tell you how much money I saved by swapping coupons with fellow bumpies.

    4.  Email Similac and tell them that your child had to switch to Alimentum and you want to "update their information."  I got two free 8 oz sample powders for doing this.

    5.  Check ebay/craigslist.  I get GREAT deals on ebay and craigslist when I run out of coupons.  Craigslist is awesome b/c you avoid shipping.

    6.  Amazon.com is my last resort.  They sell ready to feed for $39.10 with free two day shipping--haven't had to do this yet though!!

In all, you just have to be smart and willing to find deals.  I refuse to pay more than $4 a bottle of ready to feed and so far I never have!

Asher went from breastmilk to Ali about a month ago, I saw a difference in 24 hours. He too, has a milk/soy allergy--eczema, rashes, mucusy poo, slow weight gain, etc...

    Good luck!

Thank you! I hope the new formlua helps LO's eczema.
  • DD has been on this formula since about 4 weeks due to protien sensitivity and severe reflux.  It has worked wonders.  If it is medically necessary and your Pedi will state such then I would check with your insurance.  Mine covers the cost of the Alimentum 100%.  But we needed our Pedi to issue a letter of medical necessity and prove that we had tried at least 3 other formulas.
  • My DS has been on this since 7 weeks due to a milk/soy protein allergy.  It is very expensive but some insurance carriers will cover it (not mine!).  I've found coupons on similac.com, coupons.com and peapod.com.  If you sign up as a member on similac.com they send them to you every now and then... I just got a $10 coupon in the mail!!!

I will say however, that it is worth every penny!  DS was like a totally different child ever since we started it.  His rash cleared up, no more blood in his poop and he is HAPPY!!!!

    Good luck!
