Trying out name...

What does everyone think of the name Avery Addison for a girls name? My family is convinced that Avery is a boys name but i think that I like it for a girl!!

Re: Trying out name...

  • My DH's cousin just had a baby & named her Avery Sophia. I think it is a very pretty name for a girl...actually I would think it sounds more like a girl's name anyway.

  • Avery is definitely a girl name to me. I like both names but Avery and Addison are so close in style and both very on-trend. A double dose of on-trend is too much at once I think. Avery would feel more balanced with an old-fashioned middle name, like Elizabeth, Rose, Violet, etc.

  • I like it!
  • I like Avery but think it should be paired with a more feminine middle name.

  • two very trendy names that I happen to love.  Avery is a boys name traditionally, but has turned to a unisex (if not more girl) name.  Addison is also historically a boys name turned girls.  But I love it...and if you like it...then go for it!

  • LOVE Avery for a girl's name.  I'm a big fan of unisex names, but mostly when used for girls... they often seem too feminine for boys.  Addison is a name I've really only heard for girls during the past few years... I'm not a huge fan of alliteration, so I'd probably keep looking, if it were me... but definitely keep Avery!!

  • I love Avery and I think it is most definitely a unisex name. I agree with the pp's, you might want to consider a more feminine middle name so on paper the name looks like a girl's name.
  • BehindTheName.com (our most trusted source for legitimate names) says it is unisex.

With that being said, I'm not a fan of unisex names at all.

ETA: I don't like both the first and middle beginning with the same letter.

  • I think Avery is a boys name. Addison is a nice middle name. I'm not very excited about either though. Sorry

  • Avery is okay but NMS, and I really dislike Addison.  Both are extremely popular right now, especially Addison.  If I met someone with this name I'd assume her parents didn't put much thought into her name but merely jumped on a bandwagon or two.  I agree with PPs that Avery would work best with a timeless, feminine mn.

I do, however, like the alliteration.  A fn/mn combo starting with the same letter makes for a beautiful monogram, if your in to that sort of thing.

  • Avery is becoming a girl's name, IMO.  I really like it but I don't like it paired with Addison.

  • I like Avery. I agree w/the comments that paired w/Addison it seems trendy & more so gender neutral. I don't mind FN/MN that start w/the same letter. I would try to pick a more classicly female MN w/Avery.

  • I love Avery. It's on our future girl name list. I don't like Addison. I don't care for the alliteration with Avery and I don't really like names with "son" in them for girls. I also think that gender neutral names like Avery need a more feminine middle name.

     I agree.

This, and my SIL is due in March and named their little girl Avery Marie.  Sounds very much like a girl's name to me.

  • I've met twin girls, one named Avery and the other named Addison! I like the names individually, but they're a little too alliterative for a FN/MN combo, IMO
  • Neither names are my style.  I have a friend who named her daughter Avary.  I like her spelling much better than the traditional Avery...it just seems more feminine to me spelled that way.  Plus, it easily allows for her to go by a nickname, like Ava.

I also agree with others that something other than Addison would be a better option for a MN.
