Okay, I am always in the mood to find new music, however I get super annoyed with the radio when they take a semi-unknown coffee house kind of band that I love and ruin them by playing one of their songs OVER AND OVER.
So name an artist or band that you love that you hope never gets "ruined" ![]()
Here are mine (with clicky links)
The Clarks (Hometown Pittsburgh band)
Re: Favorite non "mainstream" band/artist
Astronautalis - his manages to be music is hip hop-y, electronica-y, and indie rock-y at the same time. he's brilliant.
Stars
Guster!
I almost cried when JCPenny was playing "maybe this christmas too?" in their christmas department and guster's song came on... I was like "please don't ruin them!!"

You don't understand the appeal of Benedict Cumberbatch / think he's fug / don't know who he is? WATCH SHERLOCK. Until you do, your negative opinion of him will not be taken seriously.
No clue how to post a link! But some good Jason Boland songs are: Tennessee Whiskey, When I'm Stoned and Telephone Romeo. Red Dirt is a type of music - not a band, just to specify!
Ani Difranco, hands down.
Awesome folksy, feisty little guitar player with absolutely brilliant lyrics.
This is my siggy. Love it.
i second guster. i've loved them since i was 12! i'm 22 now.
I love the Avett Brothers..A girl I went to college with introduced me to them ( its funny because she was totally a hippie, dreads and all) I love banjo/jam bands. Check out John Butler Trio, they are along the lines of Avett Brothers, just a little more upbeat, a good band for driving with the windows down
Funeral for a Friend
The Get Up Kids
Friendly Fires
Phoenix
Alexisonfire
Does It Offend You, Yeah?
Freestylers
The Police -- okay they were pretty mainstream in the 80's but still a killer band.
Authority Zero
Taking Back Sunday
Tiger Army
I freaking LOVE The Get Up Kids!
My brother.
The Ditty Bops.
Laura Gibson.
The Be Good Tanyas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdIhpkEkC4c
Iron & Wine.... they had one of my favorite songs in the first Twilight movie and I was worried that people would ruin it... so far so good! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FddRcJwlT4
Ooh, ditto Iron and Wine.
I also love Fleet Foxes.
Sufjan Stevens.
agreed on Iron and Wine as well..Although I AM a Twilight nerd, I was worried about it being in the movie too..
Alexisonfire (hardcore)
Trentemoller (electronic)
Autechre (electronic)
Raine Maida (of Our Lady Peace; indie rock)
**edited for formatting, clarity
I'm a total Twilight nerd too, loved how they put it in, but didn't want it to be ruined lol
Freaking LOVE mewithoutyou. (A lot and a lot!)
Other bands I have seen on the list that I love: The Get Up Kids, Fleet Foxes, Sufjan Stevens, Avett Brothers, Iron & Wine
I like Company of Thieves, Monsters of Folks, Rainer Maria, Built to Spill, mc chris, Bright Eyes, My Morning Jacket, Andrew Bird, Atom & His Package, Band of Horses, Horse the Band, Genghis Tron, At the Drive-In, Rogue Wave, Decemberists, Sunny Day Real Estate, The Dead Weather, The Temper Trap...i cannot just name one, or just a few even! We should do a mixed cd exchange. It will feel like 10 years ago, really.
Domestic Problems-rock/pop
11 new reasons for me to love you. My husband used to play soccer with Patrick from MMJ. We see him all the time at U of L games, he's so down to earth.
This is my siggy. Love it.
yesssssssssss!!!
That is awesome and I bet! They all seem so chill. Have you seen the American Dad episode called My Morning Straight Jacket? Hilarious!
Jim James does "Dear God" (From Monsters of Folk) on the ROots' latest album. Amazing!!!
Okay time for bed, but so pumped that you like the same stuff!
SQUEE!
ahh...a fellow Sunny Day fan.."Every shining time you arrive" has such meaning for DH and I...I won't say what
but, yeah, Sunny Day takes me back to a happy place
THIS ISN'T THE BUMP, THIS IS SPARTA!!!
Aw, I like this thread.
My favorite has to be Lucero. Though, they are probably mainstream in some parts of the country.
Amen sistah! Love "Both Hands"!
Patty Griffin--Dixie Chicks covered some of her songs
Wild Colonials
September 67
A Fine Frenzy--"Almost Lover"-great song!
I think its a law that if you live in AZ you have to love Authority Zero. I saw them in Phoenix two years ago. I thought the fans were going to trample the sound booth.
My list:
Lagwagon
Defiance Ohio
propaghandi
My favorites are Alkaline Trio and Against Me. They have taken a turn for the mainstream though.
Stuff that not many people would probably get into (but music I love):
Danzig
The Misfits
Strength For A Reason
Wisdom In Chains
Animalhaus
Mushmouth/Out to Win
Alice Cooper (although I think he may be considered mainstream)
You must be from PA, huh? Interestingly enough, I just popped in the Fat Albert Christmas DVD and remembered there was a band called Mushmouth.
