Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

biting apart the crib rails!!!

So the past few days my daughter has been teething....well after her nap yesterday I noticed that she had started knawing on her crib..but it was easily fixable with my furniture paint pen (she has a white crib), and we were going to try and put on the gummi rails.  Fast forward to today when now there are huge chunks of paint missing because the gummi rails didn't fit last night and I am trying to find an alternative.  UGH!!  I found the cloth alternative.....but now i don't know how to fix this crib.  My mom told me that she had to move me to my toddler bed because I used to chew chunks off of my crib.  any suggestions? have you tried the cloth crib rail protectors?  any advice in fixing the crib?

Re: biting apart the crib rails!!!

  • My DS has destroyed his crib.  If I had it to do over again, I would not have bought a convertible crib, since it looks like trash now anyway.

  • i have a cloth cover that DS occasionally will chew on, but hasn't done any damage yet!

  • If you don't mind me asking which crib do you have?

We have the Graco Lauren which I loved.. until my kid started t teething. The paint came off it soooo easy. I called Graco and they were nasty & less than helpful saying the warranty didn't cover teething. They told me to go out and buy one of those pens which I have yet to do. I do however have the gummi rails but DS still manages to find a way on other parts of the crib. It is insane! I tried the cloth alternative but I didn't like it. I feel like I spent more time washing it than keeping it on the crib.

    Yup, us too!

  • DD does this, too! I thought at first the marks were made by buttons on our jeans or belts, but then I walked in on her chewing the rails one morning. I have no clue how to stop it, but I think it will end once they transition to a toddler bed.
  • dont count on it stopping once they are in a toddler bed. we set up the bed for DS last night and after he climbed in and out of and all over the bed he proceeded to chew on the bedpost...

This.  I thought about getting the cloth covers, but its almost pointless now.  I think we'll just replace the parts he's chewed up once he's out of this phase (which could be a couple years from now).

  • I used a DIY fleece cover for DS's rails, just measured it out by eyeing it, did a double layer where he would bite, and cut strips and tied it around the railing, like those "no-sew" fleece blankets.  It's kept him from chewing up his crib and looks cute too!
