Parenting after 35

We've decided to go for #2

We've been on the fence for a while now and had kinda decided we were 1 and done. Mostly financial, well pretty much all financial. Recently we've both been feeling like we really do want another and that we will regret it in 5 years when it is no longer an option. So we've decided that somehow we will make it work even though we are struggling at the moment with money.

I am really nervous about TTC again because I was totally obsessed the first time around and really don't want that again. I'm hoping that having F will be a complete distraction for me. I will be 39 in April and I was 36 when I conceived F. I hope my plumbing hasn't changed too much since then!!

Re: We've decided to go for #2

  • Congratulations on making such a hard decision! I KNOW how hard it is.  This pregnancy will be our 6th child, and we have next to no money.  But we decided that if we can feed and house 5, we can feed and house 6. Do I wish things were easier, you bet, but I'm not going to give up on having another child in hopes of things getting easier.

Good luck!  Hope everything goes the way you want it Big Smile

  • I could have written this post.. well, except the part about deciding. My DH and I had yet another conversation about it today and we are leaning towards having another.

I hear you about being obsessed. I don't know how you go from that to just "seeing what happens".

Anyway, I hope you don't have to wait long for your BFP. Good luck!

  • GL! When we decided to try for our #2 (my #3) we used the same justification that we may regret not having tried 5 years down the road when it's too late. We were not especially obsessed over it b/c we already had Jason. We thought if it happens - great, but we were not going to undergo fertility treatment if it didn't. It did happen naturally on the 2d try, and I was 40 at the time.

That's funny because this was me exactly!

  • Good luck and I know how you feel!
  • It's all easier the second time around. Mostly because you don't have the time or energy to freak out about everything because you already have a child. It is an awesome experience and I enjoyed it all so much more the second time around. It all went much faster too :)

This was my experience exactly.  I can't tell you how grateful I am that we have two now.  I was 41 when our second was born.  Even though they were 21 months apart and it was a huge adjustment going from one to two, it's been one of the best decisions we made.  Watching them play together and seeing their relationship grow has been extremely gratifying.
