late-night poll: nursery door-

If your LO sleeps in their nursery... do you leave the door open? or close it, to keep the room quiet and dark?

I leave it open, but sometimes I am so afraid to wake her up, and would love to be able to do louder things at night (like wrap presents, etc)

Re: late-night poll: nursery door-

  • DD sleeps in our room, but when we moved DS to his room at 1 year, we always closed the door all the way.  Still do.

  • When DS does sleep in his nursery I leave the door open.  I'm still paranoid about him sleeping away from me that I want to make sure I can hear him.  I'm really not afraid of waking him up.  I guess I'd rather run the risk of waking him up than not hearing him cry out if he needs me.

  • most of the time I leave it open, just so she's use to noise so when we visit family and friends she'll be able to sleep through anything. but if she's had a really rough day being over tired and cranky I'll close the door to let her sleep

  • We keep it closed while we're awake and open it when we sleep.

  • DS sleeps in our room, but we rarely make efforts to be quiet when he's sleeping, and he can sleep through anything - which is quite convenient for us!

Literally I walked through the garden today with gardeners mowing grass and using a leaf blower and he didn't flinch! The only two noises that always wake him up for some reason is loud sniffling and nose blowing...?

  • I keep it closed but always have the baby monitor on so I can hear her.

  • Open, with the monitor volume off... she's a loud sleeper.

  • Since when is wrapping presents a loud activity?

We keep their door closed to keep the dog and the cats out.

  • we keep ours closed bc we have a small space heater in there. our house fails and keeping heat in so the only way to keep the bedrooms warm is with space heaters

  • I keep her bedroom door closed to keep the cat out. He hasn't had the chance to explore DD because she's always making noise and flailing her arms and legs around, but I know that if she were asleep and still he would try to snuggle up to her. He looks at her like he wants to love on her but can't. It's so cute, but not safe.

The crinkling of the paper, and noises like that, are the kind that wake my DD up. She can sleep through talking and some noises, but anything that goes from quiet to instantly loud (paper crinkling, coughing, blowing nose, etc) tends to wake her up .

  • We leave the door cracked open so we can hear her, and we still go about our business and don't worry about being quiet. That kid sleeps like a rock unless there's a sudden super loud or high pitched noise.

DH likes to randomly howl with our dog.. yeah that doesn't go over well.

  • Maybe I just need to go about my business too, and see what actually wakes her up. The wrapping I know bugs her, because I tried it... but I am usually SO careful, I feel so lucky that she sleeps so well at night that I am terrified to wake her up! lol.

  • open. her room can get chili at night and the heat circulates better that way. sometimes in the morning if she goes back to sleep i will put her in there and close the door so that i can get some things done without worrying about waking her.
  • During the day, his door is open.  At night, we close it to muffle his cries so he's less likely to wake his older brother.

  • Closed.  But sometimes lately, in the early morning hours, I leave it cracked open a bit.  But we have the video monitor with us with the volume on whether we're downstairs or upstairs in bed.

We keep it closed b/c since our rooms are upstairs, it tends to get somewhat hotter when the heats on (our  system is really funky), so to keep his room at the ideal temp for an infant and to prevent SIDS (65 to 72....but I like to keep it at about 68-69), I keep it shut.  Otherwise the temp will creep up to 74.

Also, we have two very loud dachshunds that will bark at anything (car , door, another dog barking, neighbors voices outside) even during the middle of the night.  So although he usually doesn't wake up from naps when our dogs bark just once, I want to prevent him from waking up at night in case they do bark loudly and we can't shut them up.
