What do you do for constipation??

DD doesn't poop very often...once a day. But I've noticed that the poop is harder then normal and she has to really push to get it out. I try putting her legs up rubbing her belly and that seems to help her get the rest out but what do you do to help your baby poop easier? I don't want to put Karo syrup in her bottle unless I have no other choice. Does putting a Q-Tip in there work?? Do you put vaseline on it first?! I've never dealt with this with DS.

Re: What do you do for constipation??

  • My DD goes about once or twice a week...we talked to her pedi about and she said that was normal.  While in the office she did take a q-tip with vaseline on it and inserted it up there and held it there for a little bit and the poop came right out but it never works when I or DH do it at home.

  • I need to try the q-tip thing with DS...how far do you insert it?

  • Not that far, just a little bit.  Its supposed to stimulate the area to make the poop come out.
  • You can use a rectal thermometer too...I have the Safety first 3 in 1 with interchangeble tips and the rectal part is designed so you can only put it in a safe amount.

  • I'm a Qtip pro. Cover the cotton on the Qtip in vaseline. Insert the cotton part into the rectum and twist it back and forth while simultaneously pulling the qtip out and pushing it. Don't push it any deeper than the cottony part.

Be warned it can cause HUGE explosive poopies. When I do it to C I continue to do it after she poops the first time. It'll usually get her to go 3-4 times.

This is my siggy. Love it.
