What happened to my happy baby?

DD has never STTN, but would only ever cry to be changed and eat (if I didn't catch her rooting first). She would wake about every 2 to 3 hours to nurse, but usually sleep well otherwise. Since Monday night, I have only had one decent night out of her. She would cry/scream for no apparent reason. I tried singing, rocking, swaddling, the swing, bouncer seat with vibrations, shushing, and when nursing, she would scream at the breast and pull away and even arch her back and kick violently. When she would actually eat, she would usually still fuss and then start almost punching my boob. I can tell that she is exhausted when this happens, but I am at a loss. DH works overnights, so it is usually just me. Last night he was off and he was shocked at how differently she acted. Last night, she didn't sleep but 5 minutes at a time from 9 to 5. Does anyone know what this could be? Could it be reflux or colic?

  • sounds like it might be reflux.  my pediatrician recommended that she sleep with her head elevated to help alleviate the discomfort.  maybe you could try that?

  • It could also be gas build up.  My LO would cry and tense up and kick and I didnt know why.  I asked the dr and they recommended I try giving LO Mylicon drops and they helped!  They actually work almost immediately too.  The drops have something in them to break up the gas bubbles that are making the LO's tummy upset.

  • It could be something you're eating. My DS acts like that if I have too much garlic. I would start eating very simple meals (foods that you know she's ok with) and slowly add in more things, keeping a log to track what you eat when she's fussy.
