Changing and Feeding

Do you change your babies diaper before or after each feeding, or both?  I find at night if I change her after, it wakes her up, but I hate the thought of her going to sleep with anything in it.

Re: Changing and Feeding

  • I change the diaper before feeding.  It just got to be a habit from when DS was in NICU.  We did it then to wake him up so that he would eat.  Now he just knows it as routine.

  • When my daughter was first born I would change her halfway through her bottle to keep her awake (sometimes I would have to change her again after because she would poop during the 2nd half of her bottle).  Now we change before her nighttime feedings, because most of the time she will fall asleep right after her bottle.

  • We change her before her bottle. She hates getting her diaper changed and screams. this way, she has her bottle and goes right to sleep.

  • We change her first - then feed her. She has monster spit up after eating, so we keep her upright afterwards to avoid an outfit change.
  • Before - I start changing her when she just starts to wake up to eat.  By the time she is awake we are done and she is good to eat.

  • When we were in the hospital they told me to change her diaper first to help wake my LO up and since then it has become part of the routine to change her first and then feed her.

  • I change his diaper every 2-3 hours, regardless of feedings. And every poop, of course (although he generally only has one a day). When I change him at night, I change him before the feeding so I can let him drift off to sleep after he's eaten.

  • With DS I let him have half of his bottle and then change him.  This satisfies him enough to stop crying due to hunger and also wakes him up a bit.  DS has a tendency to fall asleep mid bottle.  It also helps with spit ups because I burp him half way as well.
