NBR: I feel like the worst person right now

Just found out DH's grandmother isn't expected to make it through the weekend. I am sorry for the family and even a little sad (Not much the woman was crule and even her children do not like her most of the time and are only at the hospital out of obligation), but I feel like a bad person because there is no way I am taking my 6 week old to the funeral. All I can think of is the germs and all of the people who would want to hold her. Then there are the ones who would guilt you into it saying it would really help them feel better.

Flame away ladies if you must, but I was wondering what you would do.

    I understand what you mean about not liking her, my g- ma is a total PITA but I would still go. The funeral probably wouldn't be until after next weekend, depending on when she passes, and as long as people aren't sick and have washed their hands I don't think its bad to let people hold the baby.

    I took my 7-week old to my Aunt's. Everyone was very respectful and did not ask to hold her.

    Of course, I was out in the vestibule the entire time as it was inevitably feeding time.

    To tell the truth I do not even think my H will go there is too many issues in his family. There would be more fights than it would be worth taking our children too and it would not matter that it was a funeral.

    One main issue is: My husband and his oldest brother do not even get along with one of their brothers to the point where my H had to get in the middle of a gun and knife so the brother we don't talk to told him he had to choose. AND: One of his uncles threatens H all of the time its just not a healthy environment and no one would put it aside fo a funeral if you know what I mean. It is all way out of hand in that family and this is not just my oppinion but as they say actions speak louder than words.

    sounds sooo much like my family. i wouldn't take my LO either and i can't blame your DH for not going.  just keep in mind you need to do what's best for YOUR family now.

    My MIL just called she passed 30 min. ago and MIL had just gotten there. So now I have to call DH at work and tell him.
