NBR, recommend your vacuums, pretty please

My old one broke and I am looking for a new one, but there are so many choices! We have wall to wall carpeting mostly. I have heard good things about the dyson but most are out of my price range (<$350).

    This is the one I have and it is TOTALLY AWESOME! On the cheap side, too. If you have a shedding pet (I don't, but my roommate at the time that I bought it did), it works WONDERS! And its so easy to empty/clean out. One thing I should warn you about is if you accidentally use too much carpet deodorizing powder, the HEPA filter will make everything smell like "cool waters" every time you vaccum for the next 6 months  Stick out tongue

    After researching we got two, a Hoover steam vac (can't remember which) and the Hoover Linx. I love the Linx because it's lightweight and cordless. It does a good job picking up dog hair, etc. The steam vac does its job well but I only use it occasionally- it weighs a ton so my husband needs to move it floor to floor and it doesn't do a good job of picking up the hair.

    We bought the Dyson (and love it) from Bed Bad & Beyond and used a 20% coupon and I think it was only a couple hundred dollars.  Just thought I would suggest the coupon route.  Good luck finding a new vacuum....we've went through 3 in 4 years and I'm sooooo OVER bad vacuums.  They are such a waste of money and the house never feels clean.

    we have a shark and it's the most awesome i've ever used! i wanted a dyson but it was too expensive, and we heard a shark was the next best thing and it was WAY cheaper. It's light weight ( i think my cat weighs about as much as the vacuum, although he's a fat-ass) so it's easy to carry up and down the stairs. The suction power is really strong and it doesn't lose any of it no matter how full the container is. I LOVE seeing how much cat hair it picks up!

    hands down the dyson.  We have the Dyson Animal and I would most definitely recommend it if you have pets.  Save your coupons and ask for gift cards for Christmas.  Kohl's often has them on sale.

    We just bought the Shark vacuum, it's made similar to the Dyson - with no bag, no store bought filters, and the roller ball steering.  It's also only like 12lbs and has two settings, one for carpet and one for bare floors and it works BETTER than anything I've ever had.  We found it for 150 at Kohl's.
