Babies: 0 - 3 Months

How much does your two month old weigh?

My baby girl weighs 13lbs 10 oz and she is 2 1/2 months and dr says she is in the 100th percentile for her weight and suggest her eating less meaning 2 oz every 3-4 hours. She was eating 4 oz every 3-4 hours but I think I'm going to see a different doctor for a second opinion because I believe 2 oz is not enough for a 2 1/2 month old baby.

Re: How much does your two month old weigh?

  • DS weighed 9lbs 12oz at his 8 week appointment-- he's a tiny little guy. He's breastfed, but when he gets a bottle of pumped milk it's 5oz and he eats every 2-3 hours.

I'd definitely get a second opinion-- that sounds ridiculous.

  • My LO also weighs 13 lbs and eats 4 oz every 2 hours (except when he's sleeping at night). Although my pedi thinks I'm overfeeding LO, she said they would never consider a diet until a child is much older--say, 2 years old.
    "To me, you are perfect."

  • My LO weighed 12 lbs 3 oz at his 2 month appt. last Monday.  He has been eating at least 4 oz (sometimes 6) every 3-4 hours since he was 3 weeks old.  I don't know how you could give her less, she would still be hungry since she is used to getting 4oz!  I would get a second opinion.
  • DS was 16lbs at his 2 month check up.  He was in the above 97th percentile for both height and weight.  He takes an 8oz bottle every 4-5 hours.  Doctor didn't see a problem with it, but suggested we try some oatmeal cereal a little past 3 months to make him feel fuller.
  • 16 lbs exactly
Sawyer Quinn (09/06/06), Rory Keaton (04/07/08) and Kinsley Saffron (10/12/10). Forever and ever my babies they'll be. A rose can say "I love you",orchids can enthrall, but a weed bouquet in a chubby fist, yes, that says it all.~Author Unknown

  • I think its ridiculous to tell you to feed an infant less IMO. DD is almost 15lbs at almost 3mo. Your LO is fine.

  • My LO was 13lb 12oz at exactly 2 months. Pedi called her a "chunky monkey" and made sure I was paying attention to hunger cues not just shoving my boob in her mouth every time she cried, then moved on...

  • she weighed 10lbs on Tuesday.   I would definitely get a second opinion-I've never heard anyone say their pedi told them to put their 2 month old on a diet...
  • That seems ridiculous. Babis are supposed to be growing at this point in their lives.

DD was 9 lb 10 oz at her 2 month check, but she was little at birth (6 lb 3 oz). She eats about 4 oz every 4 hours, except at night when she goes 6 hours before eating again.

  • DD2 weighed 9lbs. 15oz. yesterday at her 2 month visit. I'd also get a 2nd opinion, cutting your 2 month old's food intake seems ridiculous to me.

  • At 9 weeks DS was 16lb on the nose. My Dr loves it and is happy to see him growing that much. 2nd opinion all the way... babies don't go on diets. They haven't developed the emotional and mental issues with food that adults have that cause us to overeat. They eat when they're hungry.

  • DS weighed 13 lbs 12.5 oz. at two months and was 95th percentile.  I assume they use seperate growth charts for boys and girls, but 100th percentile still sounds high for a 13 lb. 10 oz. girl at 2.5 months.  I could be completely off here, though.

  • My DS was 14 lbs 2 oz at 2 months so he was definitely a big boy. Although, he was only taking about 3 ounces every 2 hours or so at that point. He is just going to be a big boy- he's not a big eater. Definitely get a second opinion. Can you feed your LO 3 ounces instead of 4? Cutting back from 4 to 2 is really drastic in my opinion.

  • Please, feed your LO when they are hungry! Your LO is not too big, and you need a different doctor.
  • My DS is 13pounds 14 oz at 2 months.  He didnt actually have his 2 month appt yet though (thats monday) so I'm not sure what the doc thinks of his weight yet...

My DS would NOT tolerate 2 oz every 3-4 hours.  He sometimes takes 5-6 every 3-4 but averages 4 oz

  • My lil boy is only a month and he is 10lbs exactly and has gained over 3 since birth so Im sure he will be at least 13lbs by mnth 2. My dr is super happy with his weight gain. He is breast feed and eats every 2.5-3 hrs. He is quite a long lil man though 23".
  • My baby girl was 10 lbs 5 oz at her 2 month appt (35th percentile).  We breast feed, but when she drinks pumped milk, she will drink 5-6 oz.  She eats every 3-4 hours.

  • We had our 2 month check up today and she weighs 11lbs 1oz and is in the 50th percentile. We bf and she eats 3 oz every two hours.

  • DS is two months old today -- and weighs 14 lbs. (and is 26 inches long). Doc did not say anything about overfeeding him (he's breastfed) -- I would get a second opinion.
  • At V's two month appt, she weighed 11lbs 12oz.

I ebf, but when she does get a bottle (dh feeds her if she wakes up, what a guy!) she usually takes 3-4oz of BM.

  • thanks everyone for your opinions! I tried what the dr said for a few days but I could tell she was still hungry so I give her 3 oz every 2 hours now and feed her more at night before bed and also more in the morning because she will go 5-8 hours at night without eating. I told the Dr my baby had colic and well he didn't seem to believe me and said I was overfeeding her by giving her 4 oz every 3-4 hours which I thought he was a whack by saying that. So he told me feed her less thats just her problem and well that wasn't her problem it's Colic so the dr in my opinion has no clue what he is talking about. and I don't know how a 2 1/2 month old baby who weighs 13 lbs can be in the 100th percentile in her weight. So I must see another dr this week and let him know what the other dr has been telling me.

I'm in the exact same boat, except my pedi does not suggest that I am overfeeding my LO.  It's actually me who worries about that.  She was 12lbs, 15 oz (so basically 13lbs) on Monday at 9 and a half weeks old.  And just like your LO, she eats 4 oz every 2 to 3 hours (almost always closer to 2) with a little longer between feedings at night.  It just seems like so much for her little body - but what can I do? She's hungry! She doesn't spit up EVER, so I know she has room for it!

  • My little chunk was a little over 15 lbs at his 2 mo appt. Dr said he was a big boy, in 99th percentile. Then he told me specificaaly not to change a thing. Your DD is fine, ignore that quack and find a new Pedi.

That Kermit in your siggy brings back memories! My brother carried this around with him forever and still has it (he is 30) His wife just had their 4th child, first boy and I bought him (the baby) the Pook-a-Looz Kermit and V the Pook-a-Looz Fozzie. You HAVE to check them out! (Disney store online!)

  • DD was 10lbs 13oz at her 2 month appointment. We breastfeed, but when she takes a pumped bottle she eats 3-4 oz every 3 hours during the day. I don't see how 2 oz could possibly be enough. As long as you are not trying to force her to finish a bottle I would say she is fine, but I would definitely get a second opinion.

  • DD weighed in at 11 lbs. 6 oz.  She was taking 5 oz, and when I told the pedi she wasn't quite making it to 3 hours between feedings, she suggested we go up to 6 oz.  I might look for a different pedi if I were you.

  • We were just at the ER, and DS is 11 weeks old. He is 20lbs 7oz. You think his pedi has EVER said anything about his weight? No. #1, he knows I'd drop kick him (i pump and feed him that) and #2, he is proportional for height and weight. DH and I are respectively 6'6 and 6', and large, so the boy has no choice.

  • Um, my LO is 10 lbs 11 ounces at one month (was 8 lbs at birth) - 75th percentile- and the doctors are thrilled... says he is gaining beautifully.

Not the time to put your kid on a diet. Get a second opinion.
