Food allergies?

R eats everything and I decided to try something new and gave him black beans last night. He didn't get too many (I was afraid he'd have major gas).

Well today after I lunch I change his diaper and he's got a major bad diaper rash and the poop has bean particles in it (sorry, TMI). He didn't have the diaper on for more than 2.5 hours so must have been at some point in there he pooped but I didn't smell it.

He wears cloth and hasn't had a diaper rash since literally, last December before we switched to CDs in January. So I know it has to be related to the food. Are beans like citrus and somewhat acidic or should I be worried he's mildly allergic?

  • :/ I'm sorry I have no idea!

  • I know I'll just avoid them with him, just not sure if that's how most food allergies are first detected or not.
  • I don't know.  We get wicked bad poos with citrus foods, but don't with black beans.

    Sorry!

  • Hmmm, I'm not sure.  Zander loves beans and he eats them a lot (including black beans) but he's never had a rash from them.  I also limit how much he gets because he'd eat an entire can at once and I don't want to deal with the aftermath of that!  Sorry, I'm not much help am I?

  • This might be waaaaay TMI... but I'm going for it....

Maybe the texture of the poop is irritating.  If there were bean particles in it, it could have been like poopy sandpaper on his booty.  Maybe not an allergy, but just texturely (word?)  irritating.   But really I have no idea, just throwing out another idea.

Lol, not TMI for me :). And you're right, that could be. For some reason he doesn't digest a lot of his finger foods, which is why we still give him a jar at each meal (to make sure he is still getting nutrition from something).

  • I recently fed Kailey some tomato sauce and it did the same thing.   We had pizza the other day and it did the same so that narrowed it down for me.  I would give it a few days and try some beans again and see what happens.  Could be just a fluke.

Kailey loves beans, she probably gets them more then she should but it is something I know she will eat.
