AW: She went on the potty! (poops mentioned) :P

Kaya's poops have been pretty awful lately so I decided to try EC a bit starting earlier this week.  (We CD and even with the diaper sprayer it's just yuck.)  I haven't read much about it and we're not doing naked time but the other morning I put her on the potty after she nursed in the morning and she pooped!  I was so excited!  She didn't poop yesterday so I knew she'd have to go today.  This morning I put her on the potty and she peed.  B put her on this afternoon after he noticed her straining a little and she pooped!  :)  Then, I put her on just now after she got up from her nap and she peed.  Yaaaay!  If I can avoid cleaning a few poopy diapers a week, I'll be thrilled.

Basically, I'm just trying to put her on the potty when she wakes up and after she eats.  I don't mind pee diapers but I'm trying to catch her poops as much as possible.  EC moms, do you have other suggestions?  TIA!

  • yay!! that is awesome :) you will be wondering why you didn't do it sooner. it really is so easy.  i basically put her on the potty (a) when she wakes up (b) after she eats and (c) right before a nap.  i don't think i have any additional tips for you.  we never do naked time - i can't imagine what it would be like to have her running around then pee on the floor!

our babysitter actually loves it.... she said she's only had to change like 2 poopy diapers in the 4 months she has been working for us :) and i think that i've only had to do 2 poopy diapers in the last month.  used to be once a week but we are down to every other week now i think.  there was a short period where her diaper would be dry all the time - and we were going through only 2 or so prefolds per day...but that was short lived. not sure what i can do to get things that way anymore... but like you said, i don't mind the wet diapers, i just know she'd be better off with a dry diaper more often...

i am trying to teach her the sign for potty so she can tell us when she has to go but so far no luck. half the time she isn't paying attention to me anyway b/c she is used to playing on the potty.  i guess that's a bad habit but sometimes i put her on there and she fusses so i keep some toys/books nearby and it always keeps her occupied :) plus she doesn't poop right away...sometimes she has to sit there for 5-10 min before she'll poop.  my dad said we need to teach her to hurry up and poop but i told him that would be nearly impossible LOL i am just happy she is pooping in the potty at all.

  • woohoo, isn't it great!

I haven't had to change a poopy diaper in so long...  (he does sometimes poo at daycare so I do have to spray those diapers, but that is usually 3 or less a week).

I have had no luck with potty signs or cues.  Ssssss does usually get him to pee and I mimic his grunt-y "bear down" poop face which usually reminds him to get down to business.  (Better than DH's suggestion of just telling him to sh!t or get off the pot, haha, kidding).  He likes to have something in his hands (a small toy or blanky or book) but doesn't necessarily like to play/read.

also, I started with a potty insert but realized he likes to sit by himself and if he was on the big toilet I had to hold him in case he decided to try to get off.  Sooooo, my bathroom has a new addition:

It's unconventional and a little big, but works well for us, because J can steady himself on the sides, cleaning it isn't as gross as I though (better than wiping up a dirty diaper mess :)

  • Yay!! That's great!! I got B to poop in his potty once but that was it =P Most of the time, I can't even predict when he's gonna poop since he poops about once a week and it's random. Sometimes when he grunts, I put him on the potty but then after a few times of putting him on and no poop, he'll start to cry, so I stopped putting him on. I think I'm gonna wait a bit longer before trying again because I don't want him to hate the potty =P But yay for K!!
