Parenting after 35

Closing in on 20 words

Not including words that we understand but others wouldn't, we are at a solid 16 words.  I feel confident going into the 18 month wellness visit that Matt will meet (or will soon meet) the 20 word goal.

That doesn't count words like wawa (water) or moo for cows or quack for ducks. It also doesn't include his valiant attempt at squirrel (squil).

I think we hit that point where words are coming fast - he added three new words just last week.

So I am going to stop worrying about his words. Next in line for my worrying - his low weight.

This one made my day and I vote you count it. :) If he pointed at a "squil" and was saying this with delight - I would totally understand it. Ditto for "wawa".

*ETA* And nice work Matty and Mommy!

  • Yippeee!  I so meant to send you a note after Ellie's 12 month appt.  She will momma and dadda a lot at times, and sometimes appropriately, but it is on her whim only.  She has in the last month or so just started bubbling with sounds, but try as I might, I don't think I'm missing the first word.  Thinking of you and Matty, I asked our pedi and she said that she doesn't worry until around 18 months.  Something about that being quite the cognative explosion time for LO's and that language just makes so much more sense to them in general.  So sleep well, he's doing great!
  • You watch, suddenly it's going to be 3 new words a day, then 3 new words an hour. I think they just get to a certain point & they suddnly KNOW how to talk.

  • Yes, I would count those two. Great job!

Even my 3 y.o. was "Soupman" (Superman) for Halloween.

  • I would count Moo and quack because they are words, I can write them down.

  • That is awesome - there is no stopping his vocabulary now!  I would think wawa and squil would count as well since he obviously knows what those mean.  How exciting!
  • Matty and Mommy are doing great!  Yes
