Slow Fetal Heart Beat 6 weeks 2 days

Hi!

I had my first ultra sound yesterday at 6 weeks 2 days. I was seen by my doctor at my fertility clinic (IVF) for my internal ultrasound.  Everything looked good except that the heart beat was slow.  Did not get the beats per minute because I was in shock and didn't think to ask. My HCG has been great as well as my prog.

I am worried sick about this. I have to go back in on the 19th for a repeat ultrasound. Has anyone else had a similiar experience?

 Thanks

Amber

  • I read in What to Expect When You're Expecting that at 6 weeks the heartbeat is only about 80 beats per minute.  It slowly increases as the baby grows.  By week 8 the heartbeat will be around 150 bpm.  I'm sure all is well.  Try not to worry. :)
  • at 5wks 6days the heartbeat had just appeared..they didn't bother to count...it was probably only 60bpm...but at 9wks it was 182!!!!! (LO was wiggling around so it was higher)
  • The heartbeat was 93 at my first u/s (5w4d).  By 7w3d it was up to 159 and perfectly normal.  It can start out slow at first.

  • so i feel like i should question then as well. I went in when I believed that i was 8 weeks and they did an U/S and got a heartbeat and it was consistently at 138.. he also told me that i was not as far along as i believed and was only at 6 weeks.. is this normal? could it mean that i am further along?
  • Hi there,

I'm new here (been lurking for a while) and went through a similar experience.  I had an ultrasound as 6 1/2 weeks and the heart beat was 80- the nurse was very pessimistic, and I was freaking out.  My OB told me all was not lost.  I had a follow up ultrasound the following week and the heart beat was 155 and 180.

I'm now at 9w4d- I'm still a little spooked by the incident, but hopeful that the pregnancy will progress.

It's really hard not worry.  I wish you the best!

  • Girls-

Thank you so, so much for your responses :)  It took us 5 IVF's to get pregnant with our son.  We've went through 3 to get this pregnancy, so it's been a long road.  Your words are comforting.  I am praying that this little one is here to stay!
