Self soothing?

I woke up at 7 to DD "talking" next to me in her co-sleeper.  She seemed happy so I decided to let her do her thing.  I guess I fell asleep because the next time I looked at the clock it was 7:47 and she was still 'talking' up a storm, kicking her legs, smiling and squealing.  Is that considered a self soothe... or just a happy baby?  Either way, it  was a few more minutes of sleep

  • I think self soothing is going from sad to happy or sleeping, but that is very cute to wake up to!

  • There was some hand sucking early on but not when I woke up again.  But like you said, whatever works!!

  • Self soothing tends to refer more to a baby learning how to calm him/herself down when fussy.  Sounds like you have a baby who just likes hanging out by herself, which is a pretty good thing too.
  • My little guy always always talks to himself starting 20 minutes before he falls asleep. He goes from talking, to hand sucking and then a little fussiness then sleep! When his talking starts thats how i know to put him down for a nap.
