Using the potty w/o Help

DD does not use the potty unassisted.  She still has me pull down and up her pants and pick her up to sit on the toilet.  I wipe too and help her wash her hands.  At school, the pottys are kid sized and she does the entire process herself.  I know they do things at school they don't at home but wondering how to encourage her to do it wo help at home.  She says she doesn't like to use the step stool to get up to the toilet.

Re: Using the potty w/o Help

  • DS does not like the "big" potty. He uses the small potty by himself at school except for wiping. And will use the potty chair at home. He does not like to get on the "big" potty even with a topper. I think he is afraid he will fall in. So I stopped trying to use the "big" potty and only use the potty chair at home. I figure when he is ready he will make the switch.

As for encouraging him to do it on his own. I just praise. Show mommy how you can pull up your pants. Wow what a big boy. Tons and Tons of praise. It works. I dont care if he gets his underwear half up or they are hanging out of his pants. I give it about 5 min and then fix him.
