flat head remedies?

My LO is starting to get a flat head on one side but really it is on both sides. I noticed that one side is flatter than the other. It almost looks slightly pointed in the back! She sleeps in her swing alot in the daytime but in her pack n play at night. During the day when she is awake, she is constantly moving her head around and doesn't really favor one side. But when she sleeps she lays with her head to the side and not straight up. I am not sure how to reposition her so that her head doesn't go to the side when she sleep, I used the positioner that came with the snuzzler for the carseat and put it in her swing but no luck, she still turned her head to the side and slept , she does this in her pack n play too! I am worried about this and dont know how to help her. I try to do more tummy time and let her sit up right when she's awake but since she sleeps so much not sure how that's helping.

Re: flat head remedies?

  • Have you talked to your pedi?  Did he/she say anything regarding it?  I have my pedi check whenever we have our visits, and if he seems o.k. with LO's head I don't worry.

  • My LO is a little flat on one side. He favors one side all the time. When he's in his swing I roll up a tshirt and put it on that side so he can't turn that way. He also naps in his swing. I don't do it in his crib at night, but I feel comfortable doing it during the day when I can keep an eye on him. Don't worry, your girl will have hair to cover it. My little one will be bald one day with a flat head   :)
  • Yes, my little girl has TONS of hair, I just am worried because I have heard about them having to wear a helmit and such because of a flat head! I don't want that. At her 2 month visit her head was NOT flat so I wasn't worried but over the last month it's gotten this way more and more. She doesn't go back to her Pedi for another month and I think that is too long to wait so I may just call and ask. Someone else said maybe let her sleep on her side?!? I am going to ask if that would be safe.
  • We're getting a little flat on one side too. I'm letting LO sleep on his tummy during the day now. Yeah yeah yeah, I know, I'm always in the same space as him.

I'm doing the same thing. She loves to sleep on her tummy, but hates tummy time. She's always right where I can see her, so I feel fine letting her sleep that way. At night, she sleeps in her swing and I can tell she favors a certain side. I also keep her on my chest a lot so she's not constantly on her back. Flat head is my biggest anxiety!

  • DS seems to favor one side also and pedi noted that one side was flat so I've been propping his head with a blanket or burp rag during the day when he naps and working on tummy time too.  I too, am concerned about getting a helmet and trying to do whatever I can to help.  Although my pedi didn't mention anything about a helmet yet.
  • I swear by this:

I used it with DS #1 and I am using it again with DS #2.  I put it in his swing, glider chair, etc.  One of my friends son had a flat spot developing and I bought one of these for her and it got better within weeks.
