My LO has been extremely fussy/crying every waking minute since Friday. The only thing that will soothe him is to be on my breast. He has always spit up, but now its just a little in his mouth and then he will swallow it again (reflux?) His belly now seems hard after feedings. I give him Mylacon drops at each feeding and we tried Gripe Water starting last night, which seemed to help this morning when I gave it to him for like 15 minutes. He isn't running a fever and sleeps pretty good, its just when he is awake. I feel like something is wrong with him. He has a checkup on Wednesday, so I don't know if I should wait until then or what. I know babies are fussy and cry, but I feel like something might be wrong. Gas, reflux, colic?
Re: Would you call the Dr?
I definitely wouldn't call the doctor just yet. It seems like gas! My suggestion, which surprisingly I haven't seen anywhere on here yet, is to when he is awake, and not directly after a feed, if it seems like something is bothering him, lay him on his back and push his knees to his tummy. You won't hurt him, push them and he will most likely fart. Then straighten his legs out, wait a few seconds, and do it again, and repeat until you don't get anymore farts. Also, try massaging his tummy in a circular motion! I do this all the time, and DS loves it. He loves that it helps him relieve the gas he doesn't burp out, and luckily, we have gotten almost 8 weeks so far without ever using gripe water or mylicon or any of the other things. This seems like the easiest and cheapest remedy for tummy pains, which something DS has pretty regularly, as any baby.
Good luck! I swear that this really helps! Don't do it directly after a feeding though, because he will throw up!
