Cloth Diapering

Intro :)

Hello, I am hoping to start posting on this board. I was super excited about cloth diapering when I was PG, and for various reasons I am just now really starting. I went a little nuts and threw myself into BG 3.0 pockets based on a lot of great reviews from people I trusted. I think I bought 24 of them! However, they were way too big on LO until now, and I'm still not sold on them. They just seem unnecessarily bulky; there's so much excess material.

I'm shopping around to see if I can find something with a trimmer fit... I bought a Blueberry coverall on BabySteals and I love it, and I'm starting a Jillian's Drawers trial in a couple of days. I've ordered a couple others to try as well. And get this... my mom has gotten her hands on a diaper cover pattern and some PUL. I think she's as obsessed as I am.

  • Welcome. :)  :Let your addcition begin...haha.

     As for the BG pockets I would try a different insert.  I use FB inserts in them and they aren't as bulky. I hate the OS insert that comes with them.  I am not a huge fan of microfiber but DS pees super fast that I need some or else he'll just leak out the legs.

  • Welcome to the fluffy side!

    As DuckLover said, try a different insert. I *hate* my BG inserts, I prefer to use hemp inserts (I use AFFF). Hemp is a lot trimmer than MF.  BGs are the workhorse of our stash - they're not super fancy but they get the job done. They are DH's favorite. You can also pair the newborn insert/doubler that the BGs come with along with your hemp.

  • Thanks for the tips. I actually stumbled across the Joey Bunz Hemparoo inserts today and was wondering how it was possible that one of those is enough (for daytime). I guess I need to learn about hemp! Using BG 3.0s with a different $5 insert would not be very cost effective though... I am trying not to break the bank, despite my diaper schizophrenia detailed above. I'm definitely going to resell the ones I don't like post-haste.

    If you sew or know someone who can sew for you, you can make your own inserts. You just need to order some hemp fleece. :) But, even if you buy your inserts, its still way more cost effective than sposies - yes, even with a $5 insert for each diaper. ;)

  • okay, i'm dumb. this thread just blew my mind. you can mix and match inserts?

    i have been laboriously labeling and stuffing the 'right' insert into each diaper every time.

    oh yeah. :) I really don't like the OS BG inserts because of the fold down snap so it causes extra bulk so I use the FB inserts. :)

  • Mind blown. I feel like an idiot!

    I actually HAVE AFFF inserts, and I wasn't quite sure what I was supposed to use them for. I figured doublers in a wrap with a prefold. I never realized I could put them in another company's pockets. For some weird reason I assumed there was something special about the inserts they came with.

    ::facepalm::

    Thanks, I may try making my own.
