Baby carrier/sling ?

There are so many reviews on different styles and brands that my head is practically spinning.  Since LO is child #3, I really want to wear her a lot so I can have my two hands free to help with my two boys.

I know that the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a warning in March 2010 about slings that hold a baby in a curved C-like position, so I'd like to avoid that style... but what is the best type of sling/carrier for an INFANT?  I already have a carrier/sling for an older baby (it's recommended to begin use at 4+ months) but I want to be able to use one from the get-go.  Any suggestions?  TIA!

Re: Baby carrier/sling ?

  • We have a Bjorn and a ring sling. I have several friends who have a moby wrap and love it.

The Bjorn is great for when we go out and DH usually wears it. DS loves it and loves to face out and watch people. He also loves the ring sling and when we are out shopping I take it with me for a break from the stroller.

  • I have a Moby Wrap.  They have a little bit of a learning curve, but they are awesome.  Baby snuggles right up against you, they provide great support for you and baby, and they allow you to be truly hands free.  This would be my recommendation.  I would stay away from the Bjorn and Snuggli style carriers, I've heard they hurt your back and are not very ergonomic for baby, since they kind of dangle from their crotch.

  • I have the Beco Carrier and Baby K'Tan and love both and use both differently. Hopefully this helps.
  • Try to avoid the crotch-dangling carriers early on - like Bjorn, Ergo etc.

I would look into a ring sling, or a Moby. Since you have other children and might be in a hurry/need to put on a carrier fast - I would try the Baby K'tan.  There are many different holds you can try. It's like the Moby, but faster and easier to use.https://www.babyktan.com/

  • I'm getting the Beco Gemini.  You can use it for front carry facing forward but it's better on baby's hips and mom's back, and you can use it for older kids too (up to 4 yrs I think it says?)

I'll also be getting some type of wrap, the Beco will be mostly for DH....

  • We just got the baby k'tan and although we haven't gotten the chance to use it, the instructions for different carries were really simple and easy to follow. This was the main reason we decided to go with this carrier and not the moby, I was worried that the moby would be too difficult to put on and get LO settled for DH and he wouldn't use it. Definitely not the case with the k'tan, check out this youtube video, it convinced me.

  • I have a K'tan and absolutely love it - does all the same things as a moby but is so much easier to use. great for throwing on quickly when on the go.
