Let me start by saying that I have a chunker
She is 8 months old 25 lb, 20" waist and is wearing 18 month clothes although the length is a little long.
I ordered 2 pair of Sbish M/L knit longies. I could barely pull them over her diaper and they left imprints on her waist after just trying them on. So, I sold those and bought L. She actually has some room to grow in these but they are WAY too long. My mom and I both sew so I want to try hemming them. Has anyone done this before and how did they turn out? I can't seem to figure out out to redo the hem without them being too thick. HELP!
One more question, is it normally true that she will thin out some when she starts walking? I want to order another pair to put up and wonder if the L will be too big if her waist does thin. TIA!! Sorry for so many questions!
Re: Sbish knit longies - Sizing/fit and hemming??
Yes, LOs will thin out a bit when they start walking, however I would wait until that point to be ordering more if you want one for her to grow into because you don't know how much she will or won't thin out. KWIM?
As far as hemming, I would not NOT hem the knit SBish longies. Interlock can be hemmed but if you cut the knit, it could possibly unravel. Also, they are double layer and the hem isn't "hemmed" per say so much as folded, if that makes sense... Basically, there is no cut in the material at the bottom it is folded in half, sewn to keep them together, and then brought up to the top that way. I would just cuff them, put a stitch if you want it to stay that way, and leave it. For how gorgeous and expensive they are, I wouldn't risk butchering it. Also, SBish wool holds its retail value pretty well but it won't if you alter it.
Thank you! That's what I was afraid of. I guess I just wanted these to work so bad because they are so soft and thick! I'll just have to settle for a soaker for now. I'll be listing them along with some diaper this afternoon
We have the Sbish karate pants which are interlock in M/L since M would have been a perfect fit lengthwise and I wanted him to get some use out of them. I took them up with some very light stitching (no cuts or anything though). It does make them thicker at the bottom, but he doesn't seem to mind at all. If you do it very minimally, it shouldn't impact resale price too much and you've already lost out a little since they're now "used". If it were me and the thickness wouldn't bother you, I'd just lightly hem them up and use them. With the L, you should be able to get 2ish years of use out of them. That use would be well worth any loss on value from a few hem marks to me.
The interlock would be a lot easier to do this with than the knit longies. If it were interlock she had, I would say go for it. Knit is a lot thicker.
