Avery: boy or girl?

I really like the name Avery for a boy, but I have seen that it is becoming more common for a girl.

Do you like it better for a boy or a girl?

  • The only Avery I've ever known is a girl and she's 30 now. I know it's a boy name, but I always think girl.

  • Last Name or Girl. But I've only seen it on girls so that is why.

  • Avery is originally a boy's name, but at this point, it's just not nice to give it to a boy. Too many girls have the name. It's VERY trendy for girls right now. It's not cool for a boy to have to share his name with so many girls his age.

  • I like it better for a girl... (^,^)
  • Boy -- a teacher of mine had a son named Avery and I always thought it was super adorable. It has a cowboy vibe to it (in my opinion!).

  • Boy. I'm not sure why it's becoming so popular as a girls name.... I've only ever known boys with the name Avery.

  • It reminds me of Charlotte's Web, so I automatically think boy. I know a 7 month old boy named Avery and a 10 year old girl named Avery. I don't like it either way, actually.

  • I think of a girl. Sounds too feminine for a boy.

this. there are so many girls named that now. And I've always loved it for a boy, so I'm disappointed.

  • I've heard both, but personally associate it with a girl name.

  • I think of a girl and with the popularity of Avery for a girl's name at the moment, he may have a hard time having a "girl's name" growing up IMO.

  • I automatically think boy because traditionally it is a boy's name. But the new trend is Avery as a girl's name....
  • Way to girly for a boy name. IMO

  • I think of it as a girl's name, but I know it's originally a boy's. DH sees it as a "Old man's name." :P
  • I like it for both a boy and a girl. However, my immediate association with the name is the Avery character in Charlotte's Web. I think it is best as a boys name, but I have no problem with people using it as a girls name, too. I think it sounds nice for either.

  • I like it for both a boy and a girl as well, but I agree with a PP and I think its becoming more popular for a girl!
