I know many of you ladies on this board *hate* this name, but I'm hoping you can help me out anyway.

If I were to have a GIRL and name her EMERSON, would the nn be "Emme" or "Emery"?? Or either?

A. Nickname. Is Whatever. You. Want. It. To. Be.
There is NO LAW.
Look at all the classic names and the bizarre nicknames people have come up for them: John = Jack, Richard = ***, William = Billy, Elizabeth = Betsy, Libby, Lisa, Bitsy, ad nauseum, Margaret = Peggy, Molly, Meg, ad nauseum, Susan = Sally, Sadie, Sookie... the list goes on and on.
If there was a law about nicknames, then EVERY Elizabeth would be an Eliza or a Liz or a Beth, EVERY William would be a Will or a Liam, EVERY Richard would be a Richie, and every Margaret would be a Marge. Is that the case? No. Then why stress about what nickname you want to use for your child, whether the nickname is a "classic" one, an "obvious" one, or one that you think fits both the name and the child.
Nickname your kid whatever you please.
Sorry to be so strident, but the nickname police on this board are really starting to get to me. You'd think they'd never met a Bill in their life.
I was just wondering what people thought would come more naturally. I didn't know before I had Lila that her nn would be "Lila Grace Silly Face" -- it just happened. So... I was just wondering.
This! Emery actually came to my head first. I find NN just sort of find themselves as time passes too.
I LOVE THE NAME!! We are due in May and having a girl. We are doing Emerson and calling her Emme. I love that spelling.
I once posted about the name Emerson and got a lot of "i hate it". Glad to know someone else likes it!
