We have a Bummis Swimmi diaper that we used for DD numerous times this past summer and last year on vacation and it worked great.
I preferred for the swim diaper to velcro on and off, vs. the ones that just pull off and on like underwear, because if DD pooped in it, I would not want to have to pull it down over her legs to get it off....messy!!! This happened to my neighbor (on her 2 y.o.) at a public pool and it was NOT pretty.

We have the Bummis Swimmi. We really like it (in fact that was my first step towards CDing). The one time we've had a poop incident at the pool it was contained, so it did its job. I have heard a lot of people use an unstuffed pocket diaper or a cover instead. However, I personally like having a designated swim diaper. I would only use one of our pocket diapers or a cover, if I was willing to have it out of my regular rotation. We go to the pool multiple times a week during the summer and frequently during the winter not to mention the beach trips. I feel the chlorine and sand would not be something I would want to be wearing away at something I relied on in my regular stash. HTH
