My SO hates it when I ..

Take my little man into the shower with me . I dont see the difference in this and if I breastfed ,where he would be starring at my boobs for hours on end . He says its not natural and he will grow up not knowing that it isnt right .UMMM WHAT ??? He is 7 weeks old and if I shower with him I get a shower EVERY DAY and thats a big thing with how hard he was in the begining .Do you  ladies find something wrong with this ?? Maybe my vision is clouded by wanting 20 minutes of no crying . Its not like I will do it when he is 10 !

  • I don't take DS in in the shower with me, cause I like my hot showers, but I have DS in the bathroom with me, and he chills out in his bouncy seat while I shower.

but I don't see anything wrong with what you are doing..

  • Yeah, I dont see the issue. It's not like he's going to remember it anyway.

  • I honestly don't see anything wrong with this. Really? He is 7 weeks old. I hardly doubt that "seeing" (if you can call their vision that yet) his mothers body will cause any issues... it is very natural, you are his momma.

I think its okay up until he is 3, maybe 4? IDK, my stepson walked in on me at age 4 and was a little too interested, but my stepdaughter at age 3 would see me and not care whatsoever (not like I intentionally changed in front of them but we had some privacy/boundary issues).. not that that makes it a magic number by any means, thats just my experience.

Yeah I don't see what the big deal is.  Did you remind him that he surely saw his own mother naked when he was a baby and he isn't scarred for life?

He was raised solely by his mother , and I truely beleive she neglected him . He has a sister who is less then 18 months younger then him . I dont beleieve he recieved the attention he should have as a small child . In my mind I wouldnt doubt it if his mother left him crying in the living room while she showered . I know thats a mean thing to say but I dont doubt it . I know my little brother ( not really little now he is 20 ) is comfortable with the women body ,because my father is a truck driver and he is gone for long periods of time ,so he was stuk with us lol. I just never thought he would have such odd feelings about something that to me is very natural . He seems very calm laying on my chest while I bathe him .Sometimes he even gets excited and starts kicking the water around . He is NEVER happy in the little infant tub .

  • I don't see anything wrong with it, but how do you manage it?  I don't think I'm coordinated enough to wash while holding a slippery baby.  I'd be afraid of dropping LO.

    This is my question too!

Also, I grew up taking showers with my mom until I was 4-5. I am in no way scarred by it, I just loved the shower and it was her way of getting me clean when she worked two jobs and didn't have time for special night baths. I know your LO is a boy but until he's older it doesn't make a damn bit of difference.

I place him in his boucy seat next to the shower in his diaper ,where he gets super excited because he KNOWS he is coming in . Its too cute . Then after I am completly done showering I sit down and move the sprayer so it isnt directly on him . With him on my lap he isnt nearly as slippery . I wash him all up put his hair ( not head ) under the water to get all the soap out . He loves this , he actually tries to lick the water off his face . With my hands under his arms I sort of do a flying motion under the water and he thinks that is funny , and that removes all the soap from him body . I usually always have the towel laid out over the bouncer . So when Im done I just plop him back in there and he hangs out for a second while I dry off and we go about our day . Takes 5 minutes TOPS and I have no screaming baby and I dont have to train the infant tub and put all the stuff back ...works for us lol !

This would be a recipe for disaster in my house. I'm like a slippery fat manatee in there with those tiny flap arms without fingers. Do you sit on the floor of the tub or do you have a seat in the shower?

  • Tell your SO to chill. Your baby is 7 weeks old. He has no concept of sex yet. There's nothing wrong with showering or bathing with your baby.

I sit on the floor I was using a bath chair for a while but he likes splashing in the water and gets pissed when his feet cant reach lol .

  • Sounds like you have a baby that would love some baby swim classes!

Yay I know , Im so excited to start him in one , unfortuantly I cant find a local class and I would be scared to take him in a big pool without me being  supervised .

  • I always bathe with my 2 kiddies on bath night (every other night).  My DD just plays while I bathe DS.  After DS is clean, I hand him off to DH who gets him lotioned and put in his jammies, etc and I wash DD and get her out of the bath.  Then I take DS and nurse him and DH gets DD in her jammies.  It works really well for us, a lot less time than bathing them separately.  And DD gets ticked if DS isn't with us in the tub!
