NBR: Is this common practice?

I just went out to my car to get my phone and in the driver seat was a box that was delivered today. I don't know who delivered it (PO, UPS, FedEx) but I've been home all day and parked in my recliner right by the front door. We have a covered porch and no one knocked on the door today.

I really don't like that someone effed with my car.

  • PO and FedEx knock on my door. UPS never knocks so I would say it was probably them, although putting it in your car is uber weird and little effed up IMO.

  • We've been getting several deliveries from UPS this week and they've just been leaving them at the door without knocking. I just see the truck drive away.

Exactly the opposite here. UPS always knocks and no one else does. Weird.

Very weird that it was in your car.

I would try to find out who delivered it (doesn't it show on the label?) and complain. That is insane that they would go in your car!

It's just in an Amazon box. Now I'm irritated because I texted H and he's not as outraged as I am. This is a big deal damnit! ; )

  • I've told UPS, FedEx and USPS not to knock on my door anymore since it gets the dogs all riled up and normally dd is napping. BUT I think it's realllllly weird they put it in your car!? Maybe the delivery man was trying to be helpful??

the label should have a tracking number on it AND say ups.com or fedex.com or usps.com

If the tracking number starts with 1Z then it's UPS.

  • Almost all my amazon boxes come from UPS....

True. I got 16 amazon boxes the other day and 12 of them were from UPS and 4 from FedEx.

  • I would definitely get the tracking number off the box and figure out which delivery company left it and complain.  Not cool that they were in your car, especially since you have a covered porch.  I've had issues with UPS parking their truck on my lawn (we live in the boonies and have a gravel driveway but still) but never leaving things in my car.  I've never had a problem with the FedEx guys though.

  • Was your car unlocked? It seems even more odd that they would do something like that if you live in such a safe neighborhood. If your car is safe unlocked, then I'm sure the package would be just fine on your porch!

  • Creeeepy. What if they messed up your seat settings?

Yeah I don't usually lock my car. I don't have fancy electronics or valuable out there and we don't live in a high crime area so it's never been a big deal. I may start now though. I mean nothing was messed with but I don't like that anyone was comfortable messing with my car.

  • That's really sketchy.  I've never heard of one of those people going into a car.  Why wasn't it locked?

  • That is super weird and a little creepy.  I think I'd make a phone call about it.  There's always a tracking number, so they'll know exactly which employee delivered it and went into your car.

It was probably UPS.  I hate them.  We have a buzzer and a high, locked fence.  They NEVER buzz, they just chuck whatever box they have (even if it says fragile) over the fence onto the concrete.

  • I live in NYC and always lock my car (and my house), so unless UPS broke into my car, they aren't leaving any packages there. lol Before we lived where we are now was also a safe neighborhood, but I would leave my car door (don't have that car anymore) unlocked 'cause my alarm would constantly go off, but when it got rummaged through, I said that was enough and would never do it again (I felt so violated). Now I have babies brand new car seat and stroller in there (and it's a brand new car) and always make sure my doors are locked.

  • That is creepy. Is it possible that it is a gift from a neighbour or something?? I can't imagine any delivery person going into someone's car!

  • What was in the box?
  • I have never heard of a delivery person doing that and would be pissed!!!!!

My current irritation is that neither Fedex nor UPS knocks on my door if the package doesn't require a signature, they just leave it.  Which is basically fine but it's the xmas season and we all know there are people out there that watch for delivery trucks to steal packages left on porches.  I'm not always home but c'mon at least knock once to see if I am, even if they don't wait for my slow waddling self to answer the door at least then when I get to the door I'll see the package right away so it isn't sitting there.
