How to make things stop being funny (private parts)

Gah I love boys Sad Farts and burps are not funny to me but to a 5 year old boy it's comedy gold. *sigh* The problem is that private parts are funny, too, at least to them. The school is pretty strict about private parts, especially after a recent incident. So today I get a phone call b/c DS1 is shaking his butt at his friends because he thinks it's funny. (I know he's not the only one, but I can't control the other kids, so that's a non-issue to me) I've tried to talk to him again and again and he gets that private parts are PRIVATE, but I'm thinking until he gets over the idea that it's so funny, it's going to come up now and then, which is exactly what's happening. Soooo any advice on how to get him to understand that it really needs to stop, no matter how funny he thinks it is?

  • Sadly, I don't know that stuff like that ever stops being funny for the males of our species.
  • Loading the player...
  • I agree with the pp.  Was he mooning the other kids?  If so, you can address that.  But doing a butt-shake dance wouldn't even be on my radar with a kid.
promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • just tell him that while shaking his tush at home is fine, shaking it at school: no. It is funny -- there is just a time and place.

  • How is a clothed heiny shake inappropriate??? That's how people dance, and not just 5yos! Cheerleaders, dance teams, they shake their butts. My 3yo's dance class shakes their butts to "how much is that doggie in the window".

So if I don't understand why it's wrong at 36yo, I don't think there's a lot of hope for getting a 5yo to think it's wrong. Because it IS funny.

Now if it's a naked butt he's shaking... that's different.
