Baby Names

Audra

My H and I are 99% positive our little girl will be named Audra Lillian.

Can you foresee any "How's that spelled?" or "Huh?" issues with Audra? It's not a very common name, and I can't foresee any problems, but I've known someone with the name, so I'm accostomed to hearing it. I'm wondering if people who've never heard/seen it before will say/spell it correctly...

Thanks for your input!

Re: Audra

  • I don't know how else it would be pronounced other than the correct way. Saying that I have always felt like this name is sort of, well, not finished for me. Like it is missing letters or something. NMS.

  • She'll get a lot of "Audrey" from new teachers and baristas, but anyone who actually knows her should have no problem. You may have to say it twice when introducing her, but you won't need a diagram like McKinley-Rae Ceceil's mom.
  • I agree with pp, she'll probably get Audrey at first, but I love the name Audra.

  • It might be misheard as Audrey or maybe Autumn...but please don't let that discourage you from using it. It's a lovely name.

  • I have a friend named Audra, she loves it and has not really had issue with it. It is very pretty!
  • Nah, I doubt she'll have any problems with that name.

It's not common by any means, but it's not weird. It's very easy to spell and the pronunciation is intuitive. I wouldn't worry about it.

  • LOVE the name!  We would use it, actually, except it's my BIL's (almost) fiancee's name.  I think it's beautiful, easy to pronounce, and she's never had a problem with people being confused about it.
  • It's cute. I think it's pretty easy to pronounce.

  • On the flip side - I have an Audrey and people call her Audra.  All you do is correct/ignore and move on. Audra's a nice name and easy to pronounce.

  • My great-aunt was named Audra. I think it's very pretty.
  • I don't like Audrey. I love Audra though, that was a top baby name before we new the sex of LO.
