Prometrium vs. Provera?

I'm calling my doctor to make an appointment for this week, hopefully to find an end to this long cycle! I have heard of both of these meds and done some "googling."

But for those with experience, what's the difference?

    I don't know tons about either, but from what I have seen I think the indication of use for Provera is to jump start AF, and for Prometrium it is used to lengthen a short LP. I could be wrong though. Good luck when you see your Dr.!

    There is a section about fertility drugs in TCOYF, I don't have my copy with me but I will see what it says when I get home!

    I've taken both.  The biggest difference is that Prometrium is safe during pregnancy & Provera is not.  I got AF earlier with the Prometrium.  Let me know if you have any other questions.

    I'm not sure about Provera, but my doctor had me take Prometrium to end my cycle.  He said that main reason was that if by some miracle I had ovulated, the Prometrium was safe for a pregnancy.  I took it for 10 days and AF arrived on the 11th day.  As far as side effects, it felt a lot like I imagine the early stages of pregnancy would feel.  I was just wiped out, and more emotional than normal.

    TTC since 2010

    lots of IUIs and 1 IVF all BFNs

    FET currently on hold

    I really didn't think they were too bad, and to be honest, I would have taken the side effects any day to just get the darn cycle over with.

    I don't know the difference but I took Prometrium to end my 65 days cycle. I took it for 10 days and got a light spotty period on the 11th day.  I've had 7 cycles since then, so it worked!
