Talk to me about AIO's

OK, let me apologize in advance for being completely ignorant about CD's. While lurking on the board, I have noticed that most people use pockets or pre-folds. I my mind, it seems like AIO's are the easiest way to go, but am I missing something? Why don't more people use them? Is it foolish to build a stash that just includes AIO's?

Re: Talk to me about AIO's

  • I think they just take forever to dry. That is the biggest complaint I have heard about them. I don't think they are much easier than pockets to make up for the inconvenience of the dry time. I might be wrong since I am not CDing yet, just trying to learn.

  • Yes, they take forever to dry. If I leave my dipes to dry overnight everything will be dry in the morning besides the AIO's.

I bought some for the nb stage though since they are easy.

  • I started out liking pockets, but hunting down the inserts, or waiting for the inserts to dry while the shells were already dry is getting old.  It doesn't take much time to stuff the pockets, but between working full time and chasing a toddler, I wanted something easier. My husband also dislikes trying to remember which inserts go where.  Some AIO take a long time to dry, but some newer designs have inserts that agitate out, like TotBots Easy Fit or Kissaluv Marvel AIO.  AIO are nice for babysitters, as they are the most like sposies.  Pockets are nice because you can change the absorbancy by adding more inserts.

It's nice to have an open mind (and checkbook Stick out tongue) when CDing, because your preferences might change as your baby gets older.

  • So (again, please forgive my ignorance) the AIO's can't be put in the dryer?

  • They can. Their absorbent part is built into them where in pockets you can remove that part. Because it's all together it takes longer to dry, even in the dryer.
  • Ditto on the dry time. It takes at LEAST two full cycles to dry my BG AIOs. It drives me crazy. I love my pockets.

  • IT's all preference.  I loved pockets in the beginning and now I can't stand them.   I HATE stuffing them. I sold off most of them and stocked up on AIOs and fitteds instead.  I saw it as the AIOs take longer to dry, but I am saved the time of stuffing.  Some people will say they don't understand why stuffing pockets is such a pain, but I equally wonder why the extra dry time is such an inconvenience.

My BG deluxe AIOs (sized) take one full dryer cycle where the BG organic OS AIO  takes 2 full dryer cycles. I set my dryer on low.  With the BG organics I usually do 1 dryer cycle and then line dry them the rest of the way.  Throwing in a clean dry towel in the dryer with the wet diapers significantly lowers drying time.

  • You definitely have to have an open mind and just try different options.  I started off with 8 BG organics OS AIO I got off Craigslist for $10 each. I thought I would love them and they are easy and great to have but they do take awhile to dry.  I thought I would hate pockets but I bought some Thirsties Duo Diapers and they are so soft and cozy to me.  I also love the sizing. They come in 2 sizes: size 1 for 6-18 lb and size 2 for like 18-35.  I plan on stocking up on size 1 when we have a newborn and then moving on to the size 2 DS is in now.  They are not a big deal to stuff and they keep DS dry even without another insert because they come with 2 inserts snapped together.  Just bought 4 Kawaii pockets today which are supposedly loved and very cheap.  Just keep an open mind. I think I will also try fitteds for a newborn but I am not a prefold type of gal.
