New tuna warning

Just came across this article on CNN's home page and thought I'd send along. I thought SOME packaged tuna was OK, but Consumer Reports is now saying women shouldn't eat ANY tuna during pregnancy.

I just bought some packaged tuna at the grocery store last weekend as a replacement for lunch meat, too!

What have your go-to lunches been since finding out you're pregnant?

Re: New tuna warning

  • Oh wow! I too though Chuck Light Tuna was okay (just to stay away from white albacore).

For sanwiches I have been eating chicken salad (made with canned chicken), and every once in a while egg salad. PB&J still works too!

  • Interesting info-thanks for the link!!

My boring go-to is PB&J on wheat. I think I am going to microwave some honey smoked turkey tomorrow morning and put it on a sandwich, I am craving turkey and chicken!

  • Instead of deli meat paninis I've been getting mozzarella/basil paninis.  I'm not a huge tuna fan anyway but I'm trying to limit my shrimp/lobster eating.

  • Interesting...thanks for this!!  I've just become nauseous as of yesterday, so sticking to plain bread & butter kinda stuff.  PB&J is a good idea- will try that today!

YUM chicken salad, I am definitely going by the store on the way home. Chicken is such a strange craving!

  • As I just scarfed down a tuna sandwich because it sounded sooooo yummy and I had just read not to have it more than once a week. I'll just take into consideration that I ate it before I heard new information. Stick out tongue
  • I've been eating a lot of grilled cheese lately. Also, during first tri with DD I lived off peanut butter and crackers.

  • Be careful with the chicken salad, ladies! I got a handout on lysteria from my Dr. and it said not to eat salads made in a store, such as ham, chicken, egg, tuna, and seafood salads. I assume because of them possibly not keeping it cold enough and/or cross contamination? I would think if you make it yourself, you are probably ok. I eat healthy choice cafe steamers (frozen dinners) for lunch. Don't know if that is good or bad...

  • I've been eating the lean cuisine lunches - a bit high in sodium but i try not to eat too much salt beyond that the rest of the day. They've been my go-to-lunches right now but i haven't had to deal with too much of an upset stomach. Who knows how it'll change in the future?

  • I've been eating salads or leftovers.  You could also try putting chick peas or the canned chicken on the salad for some protein.  That stinks about the tuna- I love it and not happy I can't have it for 9+months.  Oh well just one small sacrifice...
  • LOL! I ate tuna, chicken salad, and deli meat all throughout my last pregnancy. While I can't stomach any of those things right now, I'm not going to cut them out of my diet completely this time either. Everything in moderation...
