NT Test and Insurance

Is this something that most insurance companies cover?

I have pretty good insurance and I guess I assumed it would be covered.  I know, I have to call my own insurance company, I was just wondering how many people have had it covered or denied.

  • I didn't even think about insurance then but it was covered for DS.

  • I haven't called yet, but my Dr. said most insurance carriers won't cover the NT test, because they don't feel it's necessary. But all insurance is different. You will have to call yours to be sure.

  • Mine does, but I had to call to find out.  In my info packet, they suggested doing so and gave me the billing code (CPT code 76813--don't know if that's universal).  I gave my insurance company that and they said it's covered.

  • When I called to set up my appt with the facility that does the test, I specifically asked them for the CPT codes for everything...(These are the codes sent to bill the insurance company) the NT scan, the genetic counseling, the blood work. Then I called up my insurance, gave them the CPT codes and asked them what's covered.

Everything was covered (depends on your deductible too !) except for the genetic counseling. Luckily, I spent so much money this past year, that i've almost reached my deductible. I will end up paying roughly $400 out of pocket. (The entire cost is roughly $2000)

The facility was also considerate and they said in the event my insurance covers none of it, if I choose to pay it all the day of the appt, they would give me a 50% discount...so I'd end up paying $1000 - which sucks, but not the end of the world.

I hope that helps you. This is the best way to figure out what's covered ahead of time and based on your particular insurance.
