PSA for mommies having boys

DS was circumsized and we have to put little sterile, nonstick pads with Vaseline on his little peen every time we change him. The hospital gave us a few, but we went through them in about a day and a half.

If you are having a boy and having him circumsized, I highly recommend Amazon for these pads. We went to CVS and paid $1 per pad when we realized we were going to run out...we go through about 12-15 per day, so it is insanely expensive. On Amazon they are $20 for 100 of them, so you will save a boat load. I wish we had know this a few days ago!

Just thought I would share this little nugget of knowledge that we just learned!

Re: PSA for mommies having boys

  • I just cut up a roll of gauze and it worked good as well. Wink

  • Ooh, do you have a link?  I bought a bunch of small gauze pads, but have no clue if they are the right kind or size.  Plus I probably don't have nearly enough, so I'll probably order them off Amazon.  I would like to NOT pay $1 per pad, hahaha.

THIS. I got the little prepackaged steralized ones from my local grocery store for like 2 bucks. This is actually what my hospital used and suggested we use too!

ETA: I wanted to add..that we put regular old vaseline on the guaze ourselves.

Yeah, we were pretty peeved when we had no choice! We have since ordered some!

I love how every hospital says something different! So obnoxious! We were told we needed the non-adhesive, non-stick pads. A roll of gauze would have been a lot cheaper and a lot easier!

We also put regular Vaseline on them. Just a big ole clump of it and it seems to be working!

I totally know what you mean! My hospital is very, very, very strict about some things but completely lax on others. I also found that our pediatrician was even worse about it. They don't allow pacifiers, but gauze is okay. Tongue Tied

  • Woah, those are pricey! We bought a small box of square gauze pads at Walgreens for like $5 for DS1 and they lasted long enough for it to heal. Any small square gauze pads work fine.

    Thanks for the link!

I'll have to ask around to see what my hospital suggests.  If gauze is ok, then I'd rather go with that since it's cheap and I can just run to CVS for it.

  • Woah, those are way too pricey! You can buy a small box of small, square gauze pads at any drugstore for like $5 and they are just as effective. That's what we did for DS1 and the box lasted us until he was healed.
  • Well I don't know what I'm having but I definitely appreciated this thread for possible future reference :-)  Thanks ladies!

we just used the little gauze squares the hosptial sent us home with Conner. Carson won't be having it done until 5-7 days after birth by our pedi instead of in the hospital.

  • The hosptial only used a vaseline soaked gauze wrap on my son for 24 hours. After that, they just had us coat his man bits in vaseline and suggested that we dab a little inside his diaper too. They told us when it stops bleeding and isn't looking wet or sticky any more that we could stop the vaseline too.

It only took 4 days for DS to heal.

I did the same. Plus it cost way less to do it like that.

This is the same this my hospital told me. I was starting to wonder if I was the only one who had done this.
