Nursing covers

I was wondering if anyone here had any opinions on nursing covers.  I am not new to bfing, but for both my boys just used receiving blankets when I had company in my home or when I was out in public.  I always hated covering my baby's face when I could be bonding further with him.  I was pondering buying a Baby Bond Couture for $35.  I already own (or plan to have) two nursing bras and a couple nursing tanks, but I hate being forced to buy nursing tops and prefer to use my own clothes.  Any thoughts about if its worth it or a total waste of money?

Re: Nursing covers

  • I use mine all the time! DD pulls off constantly, so it helps me from flashing people in public. I nurse just about anywhere with a cover.

I have an "udder cover", I like that it has a big opening at the top to allow air in, and so that I can see DD. I feel like there is more breathability than when I just use a blanket.

The udder covers always have "promo codes" to get you the cover for free, you just pay like $10 in shipping. They aren't the nicest, but for that cheap they certainly do the trick! And fold up easily.

  • I have a Bebe au Lait and love it! Haven't used it yet since we are having major breastfeeding issues, but I hope that I will get to someday!
  • I personally like the udder cover and so does my SIL (her LO is a little over 4 months). There is a current promo code out there, Family2010. You can also get a sling for the price of shipping it with the promo code you receive from ordering the udder cover.

  • I have a cover and use it when there are a ton of people around.  I'm also very large busted (like a G), so it is very hard to keep everything covered.  It just makes me feel more comfortable.

  • How does the baby bond couture work?

I have a BeBe Au Lait that worked well the short time that I used it.  I thought the boning in the neckline was a lifesaver.  I had to actively get her latched on in the beginning, so I needed to see what I was doing.

By about 2.5 months, DD didn't like having anything over her face and I wasn't too concerned a about NIP.  Also, we liked to stare at each other, hold hands, etc. so I stopped using it.

  • I also have a Bebe au Lait and really like it - the rigid neckline is great!  DS won't nurse under a regular blanket if he can't see me, so it's either something like the Bebe au Lait or go coverless.  I prefer to go coverless, but I try to respect that not everyone wants to see me flashing them while I'm getting DS to latch on - which can still take a bit if he's being fussy.
