I bought lanolin from Northern Essence. I heated a little of it up in the microwave with water, added it to a sink of warm water and soaked my covers in there. If you google, there are much better more precise directions.
you could get a lanolizing wool wash (my favorite is from sudzndudz.com). Or you could just use a little baby shampoo and Lansinoh. Put some hot water in a cup, add a couple of drops of baby shampoo and a small blob of Lansinoh. Mix it until all the lanolin has disolved. Then pour your mixture into a sink filled (just enough to cover your woolens) with luke warm water. THEN add your wool and gently swish. Let it sit for half an hour, or until you remember it. Gently squese extra water out in a towel and lay flat to dry. Just be careful not to shock the wool with hot or cold water, and don't agitate or wring...this prevents felting.
If they have poop on them, just rinse it off before you soak them, otherwise the lanolin bath is enough.
Does that help? Any other questions I can answer? I LOVE wool!
I use the lanolizing wool wash from Ewe Need It on Hyena Cart. ?You just fill the sink with warm water, squeeze in the wash, let it soak, then take it out. ?I squeeze it with a towel, laying it flat to dry on a hanging rack. ?It takes about 24 hours for it to dry completely. ?
so how often do you lanolize the wool? is this also considered washing it or do you use another product to wash your wool. when you get a brand new wool item is there something special you should do the before the baby wears it?
You really only need to lanolize every couple of weeks, or after you clean a soiled woolie. You don't need to do anything else to wash it, a build up of lanolin is actually good. If it makes you feel better, wool is naturally antibacterial, so you don't really need to "clean" them. I use my handknit wollies so often that they tend to loose their shape a little after a while. This is usully when I wash them. A slightly more vigerous swish helps to shrink them up a bit, and then I can reshape them when I lay them out to dry. It probably wouldn't hurt to throw a new woolie in a lanolin bath prior to use. I pre lanolise all the wollies that I make for other people but I suppose not everyone will. A properly lanolized woolie will feel ever so slightly soapy for a while. Anything else?
