Babies: 6 - 9 Months

NN question.....

i visit the baby name board and when we used to be in the tri boards there was  a lot of talk about nick names.

my question is how many stuck to the nn you picked before LO was born if you picked one?

how many let the nn come to you after baby was born, based on personality and looks?

picking my DDs nn took me a while, i think she was about 9 months before i finally got it right.  Beanie Baby.  her middle name is Jean, and at first i called her Kennerbean (glad i got past that).  way before my DS was born my H decided to call him Turtle because of the ultrasound tech saying see that turtle looking thing.  my H is not original at all.  when he came came out he looked like a bubby.....lol, guess im not even better.  but it fits and my MIL hates it!

Re: NN question.....

  • it depends on what you mean by NN.

Her name is Catherine but we call her Cate. That NN was picked from the start. Its why we named her Catherine.

But we also call her "tot." Its short for "cater-tot" which H started calling her when she was born.

  • DS's name is Jacob, and I swore I would never call him Jake.  What can I say...he's a Jake Smile

DH also calls him Bubba, so that has stuck too.

  • We're not original either. We call DS monkey, and DD is Attie bear, or Attie (which is short for her full name), though we've not really used it a lot & just starting to, but she's 3 & somewhat confused by it, wish we would have used it more when she was little.
  • Our NN is based on her name: Abbey.

If we call her anything else it's usually peanut or princess crabigail. ;)

Love the name Catherine / Cate. I was actually just thinking about that name yesterday as a possibility if we were to have DD #2.

  • I am a total NON-nn person-- nothing personal against anyone, I just really hate them, so DD will always be Annabelle, not Anna, not Belle, nothing else but Annabelle.  Until she gets old enough to choose of course, but I am pretty adamant about calling her by her NAME, not a nn.  We have little "pet" names for her I guess-- DH calls her "tinker."  No idea where it came from, no idea why, but it has definitely stuck.  It is more of a DH thing though.
  • With my son we called him Will from the start and then he has an alternate nick name of "Neaner" (and variations there of) that just came to us.

With Maggie, the same. I've been calling her Maggie in the womb, her name just didn't seem to "suit" such a dainty little girl. My mom started calling her Twinkie and that's stuck too. She's the Twink and other variations.

  • I have an Adeline (Addie) too! At least the Adeline part is pretty rare. All the Addies I've come across have been Addisons.
