2 month old still up every 2-3 hours

Anyone else have a 2+ month old who still wakes up every 2-3 hours at night (&day btw)? Am I doing something wrong?! He usually has one period of sleeping 3.5-4 hours from about 11pm-2am, but then goes back to his 2-3 hour eating schedule. Any suggestions?? (I usually BF at night & FF every other feeding during the day - this got started from day 1 basically because he lost too much weight in the hospital, but he is now gaining normally & is healthy.)

  • My DS will be 3 months on the 18th and is doing the same thing.  There is nothing to do differently.  Every baby sleeps different....trust me....cause DS #1 was only getting up twice a night at 6 weeks old.  Needless to say DS#2 not sleeping great has been quite an adjustment after having one that slept well.

  • My DD is still up a lot. I get maybe a 4-5 hour stretch then she is up every 2 hours like clockwork after that.
  • Are you sure he's actually hungry when he wakes up?  Does he eat good?  I finally realized that my kid just wakes up a lot at night.  I was getting frustrated because he would wake up and then just fall asleep at the boob.  We have started to go in and soothe him - rocking, paci, etc.  He will usually go back to sleep!  We've been doing this for about a week and last night he only woke up once to eat!

  • My girl does the same thing.  We get a nice stretch from 10p-2a but after that it all goes to poo.  Still, until recently it was ALL two hour stretches so right now the first stretch feels like Heaven!

I do know that breastmilk leaves your system faster so he may be hungrier faster than he would be with formula but there's no guarantee.

  • My 10 week old is the exact same way. It is exhausting!
  • Ry has been eating every 2-3 hrs at night and during the day, and just this week (since Monday) he's added a 5 hour stretch at the beginning of the night.  For example, last night's feedings were 9pm, 2am, 5am and 8am.  Sooooo much better than every 2 hours.  I know it'll change soon, hopefully it'll be for the better!  This change also only happened after he switched to formula (had some serious issues with reflux and bf, couldnt find what it was in my diet :( )

  • Normal! I'm with you, C goes down anywhere between 9-10pm & sometimes gives me a 4hr stretch but not very often. Nighttime is usually every 3hrs & daytime every 2. He is almost 9 weeks.
  • My first son didn't sttn until 6 months...and that was only 5-6 hours from around 1 a.m until 6-7 a.m.  He finally started giving me straight 10-12 hours of night sleep at 11 months.  My 2nd was sttn at 7 weeks 8 hours.  this one, my 3rd i would say is sttn now - giving me any where b/t 6-8 hours.  each one is different.

But, as pp said...is baby hungry???  or do they just need binky, or changing.  my first i realized was a loud sleeper.  he'd make noises and i thought he was getting up - but in fact he was just sleeping loudly if that makes sense.  i learned with my 2nd...not to feed him everytime i heard him move or noises.  i tried other things first.  and that seemed to work.

  • Thanks for the responses ladies! In response to the question about is he really hungry, I guess I'm not 100% sure, but I do think so. He grunts and tries to eat his hands. He usually either rejects the paci completely or will take it and then spit it out within like 5 minutes of taking it. I haven't tried picking him up and not feeding him (e.g., just rocking or soothing him), so maybe I'll try that the next few nights and see if it helps.

I'm starting to think it's just my reality for as long as he needs it that way! :)
