Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

tissue?

So, I have been bleeding since Monday and have had many clots.  Some large and some string-y like.  I was told that I would lose tissue and it would be gray in color.  My question is, will it really be gray in color when it is covered in blood?

I am still waiting to pass everything and really don't know what to expect.  I know that it can take some time, but it has been 5 days of consistant bleeding already.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Re: tissue?

  • I never had anything that looked like tissue, but I did have huge clots. Sometimes they were painful, but mostly it was like a really heavy period. I stopped bleeding after 8 days.

thanks for your response!  Were you able to pass everything?  I would also compare this to a very heavy period.  I am just not sure what to expect on
"passing", so people have said it was large, and some not so much.  I know that it probably depends on how far along you were....just very anxious.

  • When I passed mine I had huge clots some the size of an acron, others the size of a golf ball. There was definitely a difference between the red clots and the grey tissue. I could see the product of conception and that was horrible, but once that was out, I felt a whole lot better. It might just vary from person to person. If you don't know if everything passed or not, your doc can give you an ultrasound. The product passing took 6 hours, but the bleeding will be a while. I hope that helps.

  • I did not pass anything that was gray in color this time (although I did a couple of years ago with another m/c). This time it was covered in blood so all I saw was a red mass about the size of a grape. I 'knew' what it was because it was hard so I could feel it come out. I was having all the same symptoms as you, but it felt like something had come out as apposed to just being wet. Sorry for the TMI. I had way worse cramps for a couple hours leading up to it.
  • I could definitely tell when I passed the tissue and it was more red from the blood than anything. I wouldn't have called it gray at all. It was about the size of a kiwi. Also the cramps leading up to the passing of the tissue were the most intense I've ever experienced. I'm sorry for your loss.
  • I had a few blood clots, none were very big.  Then after about 4 hours of the worst cramps/backache of my life, I passed what was the size of a package of silly putty.  It did not hurt coming out (other then the cramps), it just sort of "feel out".  It fell in the toilet so it was hard to get a good look at it, but it was mainly red and pink with some white in it.  Since then I have passed very few clots (still small).  I was on Methergine for two days and I am still bleeding.  I am not sure if everything has come out, but I am doing blood tests once a week for a month to check HCG levels and that is how the Dr. will know if everything is gone.
  • Hi, I have been following your posts for awhile now, and I just wish the physical part would be over for you! I passed everything at home. And from my experience, I had heavy period like bleeding for 3-4 days with minor clotting. Then on day 4 I had pretty intense cramping in my lower/middle abdomen and passed larger clots that reminded me of jello (sorry if TMI). I thought maybe that was it, but then day 5 I passed the sac. I had no pain, I went to the bathroom, had little blood (which was odd b/c I was bleeding alot). I stood up and honestly felt like I laid an egg (sounds horrible I know). I went back to the bathroom and saw the sac. It was egg shaped/sized and seemed to be gray/white but covered in blood - but much different texture than the clots. Again, sorry for the TMI! I hope this physical part s over for you SOON!
