Military Moms

If you've already put LO on Tricare, were you able to enroll them into DEERS or did your H have to do it? I had to have a POA to enroll my SD, but H swears that I can enroll DD by myself, but I'm pretty sure he has to do it... Share your experience, please?

Re: Military Moms

  • I haven't enrolled LO yet, but my friend said that I just need my mother's copy of the birth certificate and military ID to enroll her in DEERS. I'll see next week when I go to do it!

I think you need a POA because my H will be at basic training when our daughter is born and I'm not able to do it without a POA. Let me know what you find out though.

  • Not much help because my H did it. He has a little bit of an obsessive personality and did it the first week he was born. I thought I heard that you had to have POA, but that was just what I heard, not fact. GL!

  • I asked on Military Nesties and they all agree that the sponsor has to do it.

  • I am pretty sure your H had to do it unless you have the POA, I wasn't even able to get a copy of our DEERS enrollment form without a POA to send to the base we are PCSings to. DH had to get it.

I don't have a current POA, I was just asking if H had to do it or if I could. Looks like he is going to have to.

  • Guess I'll bring the POA with me then. Lord knows DH never remembers to actually do any of that kinda stuff when I ask him to and I need to get her enrolled in the next 2 weeks.

  • DH has had to do all of that on our end. We also found out DD hadn't been covered properly since we moved down here, so he had to drive 2 hours to do a bunch of paperwork in person... they no longer allow faxed documents, etc. where we are. Hopefully it's easier for you. I'd suggest calling first, if you can actually get a hold of someone... GL!

  • I did it and you don't need DH to be there. All you need is the mothers copy of the birth certificate and your ID. That's for the Army though not sure what branch your in, but they didn't give me any problems. DH had to enroll me initially when we got married but since your in the system you shouldn't need him there. Good luck!
  • We needed the crib card from the bassinet at the hospital to enroll LO.  Maybe just a Navy thing?

  • DH is deployed & I enrolled LO. I DID need POA, but I had it, so there were no issues. HTH.

  • I think some branches are more lenient with this than others.  My husband is a Marine and is deployed, and when I went to enroll DD, I neglected to bring my POA and had to come back with it.
