Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

help me decide! (a little bit long)

Here's a little backstory: I was induced & labored for 12+ hours with her heartrate going down with my pitocin induced contractions. Every time they took me off the pitocin contractions would stop completely. They decided to do an emergency c-section when I was at 7cm & the cord ended up being wrapped around her neck. Now here I am. I got pregnant when M was 11 months so they don't want to do a VBAC which is fine with me because I don't want to go through 12 hours of labor with no drugs & then have a c-section again.

I'm due June 4th. My birthday is May 25th & my grandma's birthday is May 24th. Would you want to schedule the c-section for a.) Grandma's birthday in honor of her. b.) Your own birthday or c.) the 26th.

I think it would be cool to do it in honor of my grandma or have the baby on my birthday but then again part of me doesn't want to be in pain & wants to enjoy my birthday & eat good food & then I can have the baby the next day.

Thoughts?

Re: help me decide! (a little bit long)

  • I would do it on a different day than both birthdays, the 26th.

  • I'd give the baby it's own birthday. The day after sounds good or even a few days after. It's still close enough that you could celebrate together but she has her own special day as well.
  • I would not choose to give birth before 40 weeks in order to "honor" anybody or have a better birthday.  I'd want him/her in there cooking as long as the doctors would let them stay.   I'd pick the absolute latest date that they allowed me to wait and then send my grandmom a card on her birthday.

  • I know typically they will schedule C-sections a little early so you don't go into labor on your own so I would schedule it for a different day than the birthdays so each has their special day.

  • There is no way I would have my child be born before their due date. Like pp said let them cook for as long as they need. Due dates can be wrong. Is it worth it to have a c-section a week before the due date to find out the date was 2 or 3 weeks off (it can happen). Then have your LO be a premie with potential health complications? Sorry but that is ridiculous to me! The snark in me wants to say "sure, have the baby on your or grandma's bday, then when they are finally released from the nicu you can celebrate that day" but instead I will say, please reconsider.

Well, sweetness, by typing it out, the snark in you pretty much did say it. You realize there is a difference b/t thinking it in your head and us not being able to read it, and typing it out so that we can actually see it, right?

Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
  • I agree - the latest possible date, after all the birthdays. I find it weird to schedule a C-section on a particular day to honor someone, but thats just me.
  • I'd pick the latest date possible. Let them have their own birthday and cook as long as possible!

I have never had a c section, but I am sure they will check to make sure that the baby is mature enough to be born before they deliver. I don't think you will have to worry about having a nicu situation with a scheduled csection. I had to be induced at 38 weeks because I had PIH and everything was perfectly fine.

  • I would go with the latest date they'll schedule it.  My dr. said 39wks was the cut off, so that's when I'm scheduled for.

You obviously know nothing about c-sections. There are actually valid medical reasons that they schedule c-sections for when they do...

Pssst.  She meant to be snarky.

  • I would go with 39 weeks.  FWIW, I'm a WHNP and work at the practice that delivered me.  I was induced with DS at 38 weeks because I was 4cm and my BP was borderline, but I could have and should have tried to wait it out.  With my next I'll deliver at 39 weeks if possible.
