** Lisa and Mickey ** pt, ot & speech

Would you mind sharing who you guys use for PT, OT and Speech Pathology?  Are they in private practice or provided through her school?  So far we are only doing PT, but OT and speech are around the corner for us.

After the first of the year Evie is having her OT evaluation.  They were going to do it sooner, but she doesn't really attempt fine motor movements that they need to see to do the evaluation...

We are also going to need a speech evaluation, becuase she is severely tongue tied and her doctor is concerned that it will cause a speech impediment.

We are in Northern Baltimore County, but I am willing to travel if it means having a great provider.

If you don't want to discuss names publicly could you e-mail me?  maria_tim_rsvp at live dot com

Thanks!!

  • I'm an SLP who works for Baltimore City Infants and Toddlers.  Have you contacted the Baltimore County Infants and Toddlers program?  You might be eligible for home services and have the therapists come out to you.  I'm not sure what the phone numbers are, but you could google it or call your local school.  They may also be able to tell you about Early Intervention programs where you can get all the therapies in one place while socializing with other little ones.

  • lilmizirish- We are actually already in the EI program in Baltimore County.   They are the ones that will be doing her OT evaluation next year.  Our PT is Miss Stacey, and she has been awesome!

However, my insurance also covers some services... so I am wondering if I ought to sign DD up for additional services through them.  I'm sort of torn.  I don't want the Infants and Toddlers people to think that I'm not thrilled with them, because I am.  But would it be beneficial for her to see someone else too...  I don't know.

  • I don't mind at all. She has always had people through Harford County work with her. When she was 2 1/2, she had a special education teacher and a speech pathologist come to the house. When she turned 3, she began the early intervention program at school and began receiving all services there. We have been extremely happy with all but on pt who just didn't seem to have a clue. Unfortunately, I can't help with anyone in private practice, but I know someone on the Bmore board is a speech therapist (I think perhaps private), maybe SLPMel?

EDIT: LOL I just got the whole SLP in SLPMel's name- yeah it's probably her :0)

  • Thanks!!  I have been really happy with the EI program through Baltimore County Public Schools thus far, but I wonder if I should look for someone else too since our insurance will cover it.  But would it be confusing for her to work with two seperate therapist on the same thing???  I just don't know...

  • You could always try it out to see how she does, but sometimes there is a worry that too much therapy can over-tire a young one.   If you do go for it, make sure the two therapists can communicate so that they can compliment what the other is working on, instead of confusing her.
