Talk to me about tide...barnyard funk

I hear that a lot of people are using "evil" Tide now for their diapers :) And I have not had the time to research exactly what this helps with. Is it only amonia/build-up issues or can it help with the barn smell?

I am using RnG regular formula now. When using planet in the beginning, I had issues with amonia smell (bleach and dawn both seem to have helped with that, along with adding an additional rinse to my normal cycle and switching to RnG) but lately have had issues with the barnyard funk smell.

I did a bleach of all my pocket inserts and this did get rid of the smell in them, but I think it is slowly coming back. My BG AIOs are having the same issue and I am worried about letting them soak in the bleach with the PUL??I recently moved from my mediums to my large BGs so my larges do not have the stink yet, but I need to do something to the mediums before packing them away and I am sure it is only a matter of time before the larges start smelling too.

the barnyard smell started when we started solids...

  • I've never used Tide, but I know a lot of people say it helps with stink.  But first, you may want to try just adding more detergent to your wash.  Usually barnyard funk means they are not getting clean enough, you aren't using enough detergent.  For ammonia, I add vinegar to my 1st rinse and it keeps the ammonia away.
