Teacher gift question

Mar's school sent out a wishlist for each classroom today with a form to donate the money for the items that they wanted and a field to designate in memory/honor of someone, etc.

The teachers put together the list, so each class has different items and it's things Marion would play with / learn from next semester.

Would it be okay to donate money to the school for specific items in honor of her teachers in lieu of giving them just the usual gift card to Target/Staples/Office Depot Christmas present?

I just don't know her teachers on a very personal basis, so no matter what gift we give it would be pretty generic.  I just liked the idea of giving something that they asked for specifically, but didn't know if I still needed to follow it up with a present to them as well.  Does that make sense?

    I think the gesture is a kind one, but as a former teacher, I always liked receiving something that was actually for me rather than the classroom. Even if it was homemade goodies in a tin, it was still better than classroom supplies.

    As a good compromise, might I suggest a Barnes & Noble/Borders gift card? That way they can get books for either themselves or the classroom, but it leaves that decision up to them.

    That was always my favorite gift. Just whatever you do, no mugs or apple-themed notepads!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

    I am also a former teacher. I taught 1st grade for 4 years, and yes I agree, things for the classroom are nice, but it is also nice to receive things that you can actually use yourself too!

    Even little things like gift cards to Chickfila or movie theatres. I do like the idea of a Barnes and Noble card - that way she can purchase something for the classroom or herself.... and yes, home made treats are always nice!

     I've also had some of my students parents just write a really nice card to me... very much appreciated! :)
