My baby is very, very gassy. Usually farts (haha) like DH (haha) about every 5 minutes. Sometimes it bothers her, sometimes not. I have tried cutting things out of diet, not working.
Tried Mylicon and other products, not working. Tried tepid bath, not working. Tried moving legs in bicycle motion, works, but doesn't fix. Tried tummy massage, works but doesn't fix. Tried warm cloth on belly, not working. Tummy time sometimes helps.
So, do any of you have a very gassy baby that they are bothered by it and what do you do for them? Just like tonight she usually goes down so easy, but had very bad gas and she was screaming till it all came out. Took me 2 hours to put her to bed, anything other suggestions?
Re: Very, very GASSY baby!!
I was just about to ask this=( I am desperate, LO will go down for 5-10 minutes then wake up screaming....tried everything you did and nothing, and I don't want him to become dependent on gas drops.
Ditto the PP. We all have gas due to the bacteria in our intestines breaking down the food we eat. Having a baby who farts regularly isn't inherently bad and is a sign of the digestive system working and things moving along. The only time it's bad is when it causes your LO pain.
Mylicon and simethicone gas drops only work on gas in the stomach, so air that's ingested while eating. Often this happens when the baby is eating too quickly. So two approaches to preventing this is go with a slower flow nipple and/or take multiple breaks during the bottle to burp. If you do use mylicon, it's OK to give up to 12 times a day, so really with every feeding. Just be sure to burp your LO very well because the mylicon will force the little air bubbles into a bigger air bubble (which is where the burp comes from) and if it's not released it will travel to the intestines and cause gas pains.
Once the gas is in the intestines, there's nothing you can do other than work the legs, get the butt up in the air or lay the baby on his/her left side and wait for it to pass.
