H brought Colette up today. It's a spinoff of my mom's name and sounds great with our last name.
I think I like, but any cute nicknames? If she ends up Cole or Coley it'll be fine, but it's definitely not a fave.
Also H and I both ADORE the name Amy. I don't care that it's too 80s.
I like Amy for the ease of spelling. However, Aimee looks better with our last name.
Is Aimee too you-neek/out there?
Be honest. I'm just having fun with it!
Re: WDYT of Colette and Amy?
I think I feel like you do with Amy. Just because it looks better in print as Aimee with our last name doesn't make it worth the PITA that's going to be her whole life. Then again I went to college with a girl named Amy and people always mispelled it Aimee...lol.
As much as I don't like my sister at all, her name is Amy and I love her name. Amy is not 80's, it is a classic name that has never yet had a "heyday". Plus, Amy got Laurie in Little Women and when Laurie is played by Christian Bale, you have a winner for sure :-)
I don't like Aimee at all. A doula in my area is named Aimee and pronounces it I-May, but my friend Aimee says "Amy".
Not a Colette fan.
I'm no francophile but I prefer Colette over Amy.
If you do choose Amy I'd go with that spelling. Amy was such a popular name when I was in school with tons of Aimees, Amies, etc. I'm not a fanof those versions.
Love Colette...nice, but not overly-used French name. Amy is fine...not my style, but certainly a nice enough name.
Not really a fan of Colette; can't put my finger on why.
My name is Amy.
It was the #2 nickname in the whole decade of the 70s so I definitely knew plenty of Amys growing up. That didn't really bother me though; I like that it is easy to pronounce and spell and I like the meaning. I would definitely spell it Amy rather than Aimee; I love that people rarely have to ask me how to spell it or spell it incorrectly. The Aimees and Amis I know said people always tried to spell it Amy. It's also the Little Women spelling.
I love Colette and its one DH and I have tossed around if we had another girl. I met someone with the name a few months ago, had never heard it before, and instantly loved it. I would use Coley or Lettie as a nn. I also love Cosette, which is a very similar name.
Amy is very plain to me and sounds dated.
I like Colette and don't think it really needs a nn. It's only two syllables after all.
And I AM an Aimee, and would suggest you not to go with that. My name is misspelled all the time. I like Amy.
