Opinions on Zella?

I'm not sure if I'd actually use it, but Zella was my great-grandma's name. I think I like it, other than any possible confusion with Zelda.

Re: Opinions on Zella?

  • I kind of like it. A friend of mine said she and her husband are considering it because it was her husband's favorite aunt's name.

I think it's fun and energetic; different, but not weird.

  • It strikes me as a "you-neek" version of Ella or Stella, so I don't really care for it, but the fact that it is a family name makes it a little better......

Just because it peaked in popularity a hundred years ago doesn't make it made up. Stick out tongue

  • Love your screen name! Take off, eh? (sorry - too much Great White North).

At first I was thinking it's got to be made up, but lo and behold it's German. I'm not the biggest fan, and I see it as a cross between Stella and Zelda, but that said, I love the family connection, how little known it is, and the fact that it's easy to say, easy to spell and feminine (thanks to the ELLA suffix). I think you may have actually found a true, unique name. Well done!

ETA: It looks like it last charted in 1950. And I do think it would travel well.

  • Love it!!  A friend named their daughter this about 7 years ago. It is unique, feminine and strong.  I would love to use it myself! Go for it!
  • I am surprised that I like it, but I do.

It is easy to pronounce, is a real name, and has a very nice sound.

  • NMS, but it's not that bad. If you like it, go for it.

  • I prefer it to Zelda.  The only one I know is my friend's daughter.  Her older daughter is Zoe so the sibset is a little too matchy for me, but on its own would be fine. :)
